Position Overview

Position Overview
Luna Rehabilitation and Care Center is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Individual who can support the Director of Nursing (DON) in planning, organizing, developing, and directing overall operations of the nursing department. The ADON ensures high quality resident/patient care in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as facility policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Oversight
- Assist the DON in managing daily nursing operations.
- Ensure delivery of quality nursing care to residents.
- Monitor and evaluate patient care practices to maintain compliance with regulatory standards.
- Participate in resident assessments, care planning, and clinical reviews.
- Respond to clinical issues, incidents, and emergencies as needed.
- Supervise nursing staff including RNs, LPNs, and CNAs.
- Assist with hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and disciplinary action when necessary.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels to meet resident care needs.
- Maintain compliance with CMS, state, and local regulations.
- Assist with surveys, inspections, and audits.
- Implement corrective action plans as needed.
- Ensure proper documentation and medical record accuracy.
- Participate in quality improvement programs.
- Track and analyze clinical indicators (falls, infections, etc.).
- Develop and implement improvement strategies.
- Support infection control and prevention programs.
- Assist with budget monitoring and cost control within the department.
- Maintain communication with physicians, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Serve as Acting DON in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
Education & Licensure
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current RN license in the state of practice.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of nursing experience, preferably in long-term care.
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of federal and state nursing regulations.
- Excellent clinical judgment and critical thinking.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- May require long hours, weekends, or on-call duties.
- Frequent interaction with residents, staff, and families.
- Exposure to healthcare environment risks.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and move residents as needed.
- Must be able to handle the physical demands of a clinical environment.

- Deliver comprehensive nursing care in accordance with individualized care plans, physician orders, and established clinical practices
- Perform ongoing assessments of resident conditions, identifying changes and implementing appropriate interventions
- Prepare and administer medications, treatments, and therapeutic procedures within scope of practice
- Collaborate with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, and support staff to ensure continuity and quality of care
- Provide education and guidance to residents and families regarding care plans, medications, and health management
- Supervise, delegate, and support nursing assistants and other team members to ensure safe and effective care delivery
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR) system
- Participate in infection prevention, quality improvement, and resident safety initiatives
- Respond appropriately to changes in condition and emergency situations using sound clinical judgment
- Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations, professional standards, and confidentiality requirements
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing in the State of New Mexico
- Current CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality, resident-centered care across varying levels of acuity
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
- Proven ability to lead, supervise, and support nursing staff
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment
