What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Production & Scaling position at Peak+?
About the Company
Peak designs and manufactures custom evaporative cooling systems for commercial HVAC units to improve unit efficiency and reduce the energy used. We are a fast growing manufacturer of adiabatic evaporative precooling systems primarily serving the Data Center Market.
We're adding a Director of Production & Scaling to own the full arc of factory operations — from optimizing our current production line to integrating a new product line and building the supply chain infrastructure to support it. You'll report directly to the COO and work with high autonomy to execute a clear operational vision. This is a hands-on role for someone who gets energy from being on the floor and building processes from the ground up.
We are primarily looking for an experienced manufacturing operations or industrial engineer with 5-10 years of experience, ideally in a small-to-mid-size environment where you wore multiple hats. The position would be in Memphis, TN.
Primary job duties will include the following:
Production optimization
- Redesign and document workstation roles, task assignments, and handoff points across the production line
- Measure and continuously reduce cycle times at each station; implement standard work and visual management
- Identify bottlenecks and capacity constraints and drive solutions — through process change, tooling, or staffing adjustments
- Develop and implement quality control checkpoints across the production line, including incoming material inspection, in-process checks, and final product verification; track defect rates and drive root cause resolution
- Establish and track throughput KPIs; report progress to COO and leadership
New product introduction
- Lead factory integration of a new product line from first article through full-rate production
- Identify and qualify component suppliers; own the vendor relationship and ongoing supplier performance
- Design the assembly process, station layout, and quality checkpoints for the new product on the floor
- Develop BOMs, work instructions, and training materials for production staff
Inventory & supply chain
- Build and maintain a demand-driven inventory forecasting model tied to sales pipeline and production schedules
- Reorganize physical inventory layout for accuracy, accessibility, and accounting compliance
- Implement or improve inventory tracking systems to reduce stockouts and excess carrying costs
- Work closely with the head of manufacturing on procurement timing and reorder points
Team & cross-functional
- Collaborate with the head of manufacturing without replacing their role — you're adding velocity, not overlap
- Partner with sales and engineering to translate customer commitments into production capacity plans
- Hire, train, and develop production staff as the team grows
- Surface operational risks and resource needs proactively to COO
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- 5–10 years of experience in manufacturing operations, production management, or industrial engineering — ideally in a small-to-mid-size environment where you wore multiple hats
- Demonstrable experience optimizing a production line: cycle time analysis, station design, standard work documentation
- Hands-on supplier management experience — sourcing, qualification, and ongoing relationship management
- Comfort with inventory systems and forecasting; experience implementing or improving inventory processes
- Track record of independently executing operational projects without heavy top-down direction
- Strong written and verbal communication — you'll produce work instructions, process docs, and COO-level reports
Bonus if you have
- Experience with new product introduction (NPI) or first-article production processes
- Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent continuous improvement training
- Background in HVAC, mechanical assemblies, or similar electromechanical products
- Experience selecting or implementing an ERP or inventory management platform
Salary : $145,000 - $165,000
