Essential Functions:
The primary functions of the Foreman include responsibility for the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical distribution and/or transmission systems, substation construction, streetlighting and maintenance, and switching for both distribution and/or transmission voltages. The position works under the direction of the General Foreman.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for daily job briefings and ensuring all crew members understand daily work and potential hazards.
- Promotes and maintains harmony among crew personnel, customers, and the general public.
- Assists in constructing and wiring electrical high-voltage substations and analyzes voltage recordings and reports.
- Checks material, equipment, and manpower requirements; conducts pre-job meetings and job safety analysis.
- Reviews time sheets, material orders, work orders, sketches, and reports for accuracy.
- Climbs ladders, poles, and towers as required.
- Communicates with customers and safety staff to resolve problems and report outages or incidents.
- Completes reports and project documentation accurately.
- Coordinates switching changes, hold tags, and operating requirements; installs personal protective grounds.
- Determines equipment, tools, materials, and workforce needed for projects.
- Detects natural gas leaks, identifies circuits, and maintains line clearances with other utilities.
- Inspects work of Linemen and Apprentices to ensure compliance with safety and operating standards.
- Installs and terminates high-voltage connectors, transformers, switches, and related equipment.
- Recognizes areas for improvement and reports near-miss events; reports all incidents/accidents promptly.
- Maintains crew time reporting records and approves leave.
- Plans, prioritizes, coordinates, and directs work of crews of varying sizes and compositions.
- Provides supervision over workers maintaining and repairing overhead/underground systems.
- Reads and interprets construction plans and schematics.
- Oversees personnel, equipment, materials, and recordkeeping duties.
Success Factors

- Working knowledge of computers and applicable software programs.
Experience and Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years project construction experience in related fields.
- Must have 3 years of experience as a Foreman.
Additional Requirements / Licenses / Certifications
- Must possess a valid State of Residence Driver’s License.
- Must have a valid Class A CDL and current medical examiner card.
- Must pass criminal and MVR background checks and a pre-employment drug screen.
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather and terrain conditions.
- Must complete OSHA 10hr Safety Training Program within 60 days.
- Must complete OSHA 30hr Safety Training Program.
- Must complete Cover-Up Course and Critical Review.
- Must be available for frequent travel, training requirements, overtime, and storm work.
