Job Summary: This person directly works with other Ophthalmic Technicians and Managing Physician. This person is responsible for daily patient care such as patient medical histories, routine diagnostics and treatments. Assist physician with patient examinations and treatment. Is involved with some clerical duties.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare patients for examination/treatment following provider protocols.
- Administer drops under physician supervision.
- Handles triages and any other patient phone calls as needed.
- Perform and oversee preliminary eye examinations, including taking patient histories, measuring visual acuity, intraocular pressures, and other preliminary tests
- Conduct diagnostic tests, such as optical coherence tomography, fundus photography, fluorescein angiography
- Assist ophthalmologists in various procedures, such as eye injections and laser treatments
- Educate patients on proper eye care, to include post-treatment
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records
- Clean and maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment
- Reports non-functioning/defective equipment to Lead Technician or Managing Physician
- Maintains all HIPAA and OSHA training
- Assists with front office/clerical duties as needed.
- Sends Electronic Prescriptions per provider protocols.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology related to the eye
- Familiarity with medical office procedures, including medical coding and HIPAA regulations
- Experience with automated systems such as electronic health record systems
- Must have great written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and multi-task effectively
Education: Minimum of High School diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
Experience: Must have strong patient care experience and/or strong customer service experience.
