POSITION DESCRIPTION
Are you passionate about making complex concepts click for students? We're looking for an experienced and enthusiastic tutor to help high school students excel in mathematics and science.
SUBJECTS DESIRED:
- Mathematics: Algebra I & II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus AB/BC, AP Statistics
- Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics 1/2/C, AP Environmental Science
- SAT/ACT Prep experience a plus
WHAT YOU'LL DO: Work one-on-one with students from freshman through senior year, covering everything from foundational high school courses to Advanced Placement subjects. You'll break down challenging material, build confidence, and help students develop strong problem-solving skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
The prospective applicant will have the following skills.
- Enjoys teaching and has an ability to teach others well.
- Is reliable, dependable, and empathetic.
- Strong academic background in math and/or science (bachelor's degree minimum, preference for STEM fields)
- Experience tutoring or teaching high school students
- Deep understanding of AP curriculum and exam format
- Ability to explain difficult concepts in multiple ways until they make sense
- Patient, encouraging approach that helps anxious students feel comfortable
- Excellent communication skills with both students and parents
- Reliable, punctual, and professional
- Has a flexible schedule and be available to teach weekday evenings and/or on weekends.
You genuinely enjoy the "aha moment" when something finally clicks for a student. You're adaptable in your teaching style, recognizing that different students learn in different ways. You stay current with curriculum changes and have strategies for test preparation that go beyond memorization.
TIMINGS AND COMPENSATION
Instructors can work as little as 5 or as many as 25 hours per week based on their availability. In-person classroom instruction typically takes place after school (3:00 – 10:00 pm) on weekdays and/or on weekends.
Compensation is based on many variables:
- Academic background
- Previous teaching or tutoring experience
- Student reviews and score improvements
Instructional compensation will be based on the above. Hired instructors will also be compensated for any mandatory trainings.
