PeaceHealth is seeking a Patient Account Coordinator Home & Community for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Day position. The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $23.74 – $35.62. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.
Job Summary
Provides dedicated expert focus on insurance, reimbursement, account corrections, authorizations, and other financial issues to maximize financial stability of PeaceHealth home health and/or hospice programs.
Essential Functions
- Verifies coverage and ensures all insurance requirements are met.
- Obtains insurance authorizations. Ensures insurance carrier (including Medicare) documentation requirements are met and documentation is filed in patient’s medical record. Completes in a timely manner per insurance coverage requirements.
- Identifies and evaluates how to maximize the patient’s health insurance benefits. Ensure all demographic, insurance and eligibility information obtained are up to date.
- Efficiently manages correspondence with patients, physicians, specialists, clinicians, and insurance companies. Documents pertinent information in medical record. Ensures practitioners are following standardized guidelines as recommended by Home & Community Services.
- Performs work in accordance with regulatory requirements, policies/procedures and departmental standards in regard to HIPAA and other government requirements. Supports proper billing procedures while ensuring privacy guidelines are implemented and carried out.
- Responds to customer inquiries in accordance with state and federal laws or applicable internal policies. This response may include charge estimates, clarifying billing practices, correctness of billing and options for resolving private pay balances. Provides financial assistance information when appropriate.
- Communicates appropriately with all customers to include, updating insurance, and routing accounts to appropriate service areas when needed. Handles a high volume of inbound and outbound calls.
- Communicates all necessary requirements needed to support third party and government billing.
- Obtains insurance authorizations for patients and subsequent authorizations for visits and disciplines.
- Works in collaboration with Patient Financial Services to improve revenue cycle process.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Accredited School Preferred: Business or two years college
Experience
- Required: 3 years of experience working in insurance in a medical related field or other related experience
- Required: 1 year of experience performing medical authorizations
- Preferred: 1 year Home Health experience
Skills
- Knowledge of Hospice Medicare regulations and Home Health insurance regulations. (Preferred)
- Ability to work from home in a secure environment free of distractions with appropriate high-speed connectivity. (Required)
- Proficient use of computer including MS Office applications. (Required)
- Must be able to manage conflict effectively and professionally. (Required)
- Excellent time management skills, with an emphasis on meeting time sensitive deadlines. (Required)

Working Conditions
Lifting
- Consistently operates computer and other office equipment.
- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

- Predominantly operates in an office environment.
- Some time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.
Mental/Visual
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
- The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
