Primary Purpose of the Job: The Assistant Thrift Store Manager supports daily operations, helping to drive sales, manage volunteers and work-study students, and advance PAHFS’s mission. This role combines retail management with community engagement, ensuring a positive shopping and donation experience while maximizing revenue. The Assistant Thrift Store Manager is responsible for all components of the store in the absence of the Thrift Store Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Store Operations
- Assist in overseeing daily store operations, including opening and closing procedures
- Maintain an organized, clean, and welcoming store environment
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate merchandising and product rotation
- Ensure compliance with safety, security, and loss prevention procedures
Work Study and Volunteer Supervision
- Support recruitment, training, and supervision of work study and volunteers
- Provide ongoing coaching, scheduling, and performance feedback
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and mission-driven team culture
Customer Service
- Deliver excellent customer service and resolve customer concerns professionally
- Build relationships with donors and shoppers to encourage repeat engagement
- Promote the nonprofit’s mission to customers and the community
Donations & Inventory Management
- Oversee donation intake, sorting, pricing, and display of merchandise
- Ensure efficient processing of donated goods in line with store standards
- Identify high-value items and pricing strategies to maximize revenue
Sales & Financial Support
- Assist in meeting sales goals and tracking store performance metrics
- Manage cash register operations, deposits, and basic financial reporting
- Support promotions, sales events, and community outreach initiatives
- Social media savvy to support sales
Requirements, Experience, Abilities, and Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 1–3 years of retail or supervisory experience (thrift or nonprofit experience a plus)
- Clean criminal, child, and adult maltreatment background checks.
- Display sound decision making skills, problem analysis skills, and critical thinking.
- Model both leadership and teamwork.
- Clean Motor Vehicle Registration Check.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift and move items up to [30–50 lbs.]
- Frequent walking
- Frequent bending, reaching, and sorting of merchandise
- ability to perform physically demanding tasks in a challenging environment
