What are the responsibilities and job description for the Snow Sidewalk Crew Member position at Peabody Landscape Group?
About Peabody Landscape Group
Peabody Landscape Group has designed, built and cared for commercial and residential landscapes in Central Ohio since 1982. We are locally owned and based on Dublin Road in Columbus. Our work covers landscape design and construction, commercial and residential maintenance, irrigation, outdoor lighting and commercial snow and ice management, and we grow our own plant material at our tree nursery.
Our crews work the full year, landscape in season and snow in winter. The properties we serve keep the same people and the same standards through all four seasons, and we would like the people we hire to stay with us for the same reason.
The role
We are hiring sidewalk crew members for our commercial snow and ice program. You will clear and treat walks, entrances, steps and ramps at commercial properties as part of a crew, working from a site plan under an experienced crew leader.
What you will do
- Clear priority walks, entrances, steps, ramps and accessible routes in the order the site plan sets.
- Use shovels, snow blowers and de-icing equipment safely.
- Watch for ice, trip hazards and property damage, and report them to your crew leader.
- Work with plow drivers so that piled snow does not block cleared walks or entrances.
- Record the areas completed and material used, as your crew leader directs.
- Clean and prepare tools for the next call.
What we are looking for
- Availability for storm calls at night and on weekends.
- The ability to do physical work outdoors in cold, snow and ice.
- Reliable transportation to the reporting location for early and overnight calls.
Snow or landscape experience is helpful but not required. A driver's license is not required unless you are assigned to drive a company vehicle.
Pay and schedule
Snow work pays $25 to $32 an hour, based on experience. This is seasonal, hourly work, and the hours follow the weather.
You will be on call from November 15 through the end of the snow season. Crews report to our yard at 2253 Dublin Road in Columbus.
After winter, there is year-round maintenance and construction work for those who want to stay, paid at that crew's rate. Year-round work depends on openings and fit and is not guaranteed.
What we offer
- Year-round maintenance and construction work after winter for those who want to stay.
- Room to grow into equipment operation, crew leadership and other skilled work as openings and experience allow.
Physical demands
This work is done outdoors in cold, snow and ice, often at night, and involves standing, walking, shoveling, lifting and climbing in and out of vehicles for long shifts.
How to apply
Apply through Indeed or at peabodylandscape.com/about/careers with a short summary of any winter or outdoor work experience and your winter availability.
Offers are contingent on a drug test. A driving record check is added if you are assigned to drive a company vehicle.
Equal opportunity
Peabody Landscape Group is an equal opportunity employer and a drug-free workplace. All qualified applicants receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
