Function: The Commercial Plumbing Outside Sales Representative is responsible for driving revenue growth by developing new business and expanding relationships with existing customers in the commercial plumbing sector. This role focuses on providing solutions to plumbing contractors, mechanical contractors, engineers, and developers involved in commercial construction projects. The Outside Sales Representative serves as the primary point of contact for customers, offering technical expertise, project support, and product recommendations to meet project specifications and deadlines.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities within the commercial plumbing and mechanical contracting markets.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with key decision-makers, including project managers, estimators, purchasing agents, and field supervisors.
- Actively manage and grow assigned territory through site visits, project tracking, networking events, and cold outreach.
- Prepare detailed project quotes and bids in collaboration with estimating and inside sales teams.
- Monitor construction project cycles from pre-bid through completion; follow up on awarded jobs and future opportunities.
- Provide technical guidance and product expertise on plumbing systems, including pipes, valves, fittings, fixtures, water heaters, and specialty items.
- Track sales activities, project pipeline, and customer interactions using CRM software.
- Stay up to date on industry trends, local construction activity, competitor offerings, and product innovations.
- Identifies trends in customer satisfaction or dissatisfaction.
- Remains current with changes in local codes and consumer preferences
- Determines sales potential for new and existing customers through inquiry, observation, or periodical research.
- Assists in collecting past due receivables, monitors customers’ current credit status.
- Maintains customers’ pricing, Negotiates, and establishes pricing and terms according to PDI’s requirements for customer profitability.
- Manage accounts by visiting customers at their business or job sites, reviewing customers' inventory needs by walking their warehouse or storage facility, and managing customer returns by physically inspecting material.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree in business or related field preferred.
- Previous experience in inside sales, customer service, or related roles within the plumbing supply industry.
- Strong knowledge of plumbing products, terminology, and installation practices.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to articulate technical information clearly and concisely.
- Customer-focused with a passion for delivering exceptional service and building long-term relationships.
- Proficiency in CRM software, Microsoft Office suite, and sales order processing systems.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Goal-oriented with a track record of achieving sales targets and objectives.
