Responsibilities
- Deliver personalized care to individuals with developmental disabilities, dementia, Alzheimer's, autism, or other special needs, ensuring their safety and comfort at all times
- Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility support using equipment such as Hoyer lifts or resident’s
lifts - Monitor patient health by observing vital signs, medication administration, and overall condition; promptly report any concerns to supervising healthcare professionals
- Prepare nutritious meals and assist with meal planning in accordance with individual dietary requirements and care plans
- Maintain a clean and safe environment through regular cleaning duties and adherence to infection control protocols
- Support residents’ participation in social activities and community engagement to promote mental and emotional well-being
- Follow all HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality and privacy of patient information
- Document care activities accurately in compliance with agency policies and state regulations
- Collaborate with nursing staff, social workers, and other team members to develop and implement personalized care plans
- Utilize CPR and First Aid skills effectively during emergencies or urgent situations
- Assist with light housekeeping duties as needed to maintain a welcoming environment for residents
Skills
- Proven experience in group home settings, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home & community care environments
- Strong knowledge of patient observation techniques, vital signs monitoring, medication administration, and dementia or Alzheimer’s care
- Familiarity with working with people with disabilities, developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder, or memory care needs
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using appropriate equipment such as Hoyer lifts or resident’s
lifts - Excellent caregiving skills combined with patience, empathy, and active listening abilities
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure privacy and confidentiality of sensitive information
- Competence in meal preparation aligned with dietary restrictions and nutritional guidelines
- Experience working with care plans tailored for long-term or short-term respite needs
- Ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication within a team setting
- Certifications such as CPR, First Aid, and any relevant state-specific caregiving credentials are highly desirable
