Job Summary:

The selected candidate will be expected to have a major role as a diagnostic pathologist in the Comparative Ocular Pathology Laboratory of Wisconsin (COPLOW) [http://www.vetmed.wisc.edu/pbs/dubielzig/pages/coplow/main.html] providing ocular pathology support to a specialized clientele of veterinary ophthalmologists. The candidate will also contribute to instruction in anatomical pathology to veterinary medical students, ocular pathology to the pathology and ophthalmology residents and help in the mentoring of COPLOW fellowship students and visitors. It is expected the incumbent will participate in research and other scholarly activity and publish and present results of the research in peer-reviewed journals and other appropriate venues.

Compensation:

The anticipated salary for this position is $95,000 - $115,000. However, final salary will depend on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

3 years of anatomic pathology training and be board-certified in anatomic pathology by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists or the European College of Veterinary Pathology with advanced training in ocular pathology.

Education:

Must possess a DVM/VMD or equivalent degree from an AVMA-accredited or equivalent institution.

Principal duties:

We are a mail-in ocular pathology service that provides high quality ocular pathology diagnosis, interpretation and consultation specifically designed to be useful for board certified veterinary ophthalmologists and general practitioners treating ocular disease. The service receives around 10,000 cases per year and has more than 150,000 cases in the database archive.

The applicant’s principal duties will be:

  • Ocular pathology diagnostic service at the Comparative Ocular Pathology Laboratory of Wisconsin (COPLOW) (70%)
  • Contribute to the mentoring of COPLOW fellowship students and visitors (10%)
  • Participate in research and other scholarly activity (10%)
  • Contribute to instruction in anatomic pathology to veterinary medical students and pathology residents (5%)
  • Contribute to instruction in ocular pathology to ophthalmology residents (5%)
