Job Description: Provides management, coordination and oversight of commercial kitchen and dining room functions, staff and services, general support of all warehouse and pantry functions and services. Responsible for the proper storage, preparation, use, and disposal of food products according to industry standards, and applicable health and safety regulations.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervises Lead Cook/Kitchen Assistant and Kitchen/Inventory Associate
- Supervises up to 23 volunteers at nightly meal service
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plans and assists in preparation of menus and meals for 300 nightly meals
- Supervises Volunteer Meal Coordinators and volunteer teams, assists with training
- Assures thorough cleaning and disinfecting of kitchen, supplies and dining facilities
- Maintains kitchen supplies and food stock for meal service
- Coordinates with warehouse staff regarding food stock
- Receives and processes donated food items
- Maintains temperature logs as per regulations and requirements
- Weighs food inventory in and out of warehouse and maintains records
- Secures property nightly as directed or delegates authority as appropriate
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Responsbile to prepare healthy, hot meals with food service nightly for approximately three hundred guest meals
- Knowledge of and adherence to safe food handling and storage best practices, as attained through experience, training and certification (ServSafe/Food Handler's Card)
- Treats guests with dignity and compassion, assuring each guest feels welcome
- Demonstrates creativity in planning recipes using donated food items
- Demonstrates prudent critical thinking skills
- Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Upholds and enforces organizational policies and standards with guests
- Able to work independently and with little supervision, and as part of a collaborative team environment
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required Experience and Background:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Must have a valid AZ Driver’s License and ability to be covered by Paz de Cristo's auto insurance
- Culinary experience / experience working in a commercial kitchen environment
- Experience managing a commercial kitchen staff
- Current Food Handlers Card (required for employment start)
- ServSafe Certified within 30 days of hire
Preferred Experience and Background:
- Experience collaborating with volunteers
- Involvement working or volunteering with a social services nonprofit
- Familiarity or experience working with people experiencing homelessness
- Bilingual English/Spanish
Working Conditions:
- Able to stand, walk and bend for extended periods of time
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation to waist height and reach and lift objects from overhead
- Some evenings, weekends and holidays required
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $28.00 per hour
