Security Officer

Position Summary:

The Campus Security Officer is part of a team of part-time "reserve" officers responsible for the security and safety of the campus by patrolling and monitoring the property in observation of any irregularities or suspicious activities, all while ensuring the well-being of students, employees, and visitors. It is important that the Campus Security Officer can interact and build a strong rapport with students, employees, and visitors in a Christian college environment.

The Campus Security Officer reports to the Director of Safety and Security and must be willing to serve some scheduled and, as needs and availability allow, some on-call hours up to 30 hours/week. Extra shifts for special campus events, weekends, nights, and occasional holiday hours will be available.

Duties:

• Assist in protecting the property and lives of all while on campus by guarding against theft, assault, fire, and other safety issues, and calling for backup when necessary.
• Responsible for assisting with all alarms and campus emergencies, following the appropriate protocol outlined by the College or Director of Safety and Security.
• Remain in compliance with the College, local, state, and federal regulations, regarding proper protocol in handling evidence associated with any incident or situation.
• Report violations and investigate suspicious activities, accidents, and safety concerns, keeping the Director of Safety and Security informed of all incidents.
• Responsible for assisting with the upkeep and maintenance of all security cameras.
• Supervise Student Safety Workers (SSW).
• Issue tickets and citations, and assist with observing the parking areas for routine operations and special events on campus.
• Assist in responding to calls related to Maintenance and Operations issues and emergencies that arise after hours.
• Assist in maintaining the Campus Security vehicles.
• Assist in issuing keys and monitoring the repair and maintenance of all doors and key card access systems.
• Assist with other duties as assigned by the Director of Safety and Security.

Position Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least two (2) years of experience within a security, public safety, or law enforcement organization.
• An in-depth understanding of applicable laws, risk management, safety procedures, policies, and protocols is necessary for an immediate response to emergency situations.

Preferred Education/Experience:

• Experience working in a higher education security/public safety environment is strongly desired.
• Bachelor's or Associate's degree from an accredited college or university.

Physical Work Environment

• Subject to frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
• Lifting: Lifting or lowering an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) up to 30lbs on occasion.

Physical Work Environment:

• This role is expected to be performed on campus unless otherwise directed and operates primarily around campus grounds, in campus facilities, and occasionally in a professional office environment, using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and other job-related tools and technology.
• The role requires standing, walking, occasionally moving with haste, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and kneeling.
• Classified as medium, occasional lifting or lowering an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) up to 30 lbs.
• Expressing or exchanging ideas and conversation by means of the spoken word; needs to be fluent and conversant using the English language. Having fluency or familiarity with other languages is a plus.
• Shifts will be available at various times of the day or night, over weekends and occasionally over holidays and for special campus events, as needed.
• Travel is not required for this position.
