What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chaplain position at PAXTON MINISTRIES?
Summary of Position:
This position provides spiritual care and support for residents of Paxton Ministries. This is a 15 hour per week part time position.
Principal Duties:
- Meet with all new residents and any interested current residents to discuss their religious preferences and spiritual needs. This may include helping them develop goals and implement plans to meet their spiritual needs as they desire. Communicate these plans with the resident’s assigned Support Coordinator so plans can be included in their Support Plan.
- Pray regularly for the Paxton Ministries community and offer individual prayer support for residents and staff as requested.
- Encourage staff support for resident spiritual growth through regular communication with staff.
- Participate in the Sunday worship service at least once a month in coordination with the Activities Manager.
- Work closely with the Activities Manager to plan and lead spiritual activities that are integrated into the fabric of our activities program.
- Plan and lead special events which may include communion, baptism, or services related to special days on the liturgical Christian calendar.
- Provide care in a manner that respects residents’ dignity and use mental health recovery principles to encourage residents to develop their strengths and talents and set personal goals.
- Assist in planning memorial services for residents and offering grief counseling as appropriate.
- Visit with residents who are in the hospital or away from the home for short-term rehabilitation.
- Encourage residents to attend worship services and Bible studies in local churches.
Schedule:
This position has the following part-time schedule of approximately 15 hours per week:
- Weekday Schedule: Flexibility to pick days/times upon hire after consulting with the Activities Manager.
- Weekends: Every fourth Sunday. Time off is scheduled during the week for each weekend shift worked.
- Holidays: Assigned to a holiday team on a rotating schedule of either Thanksgiving, Christmas, or off.
Professional Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience in a position of teaching, leadership, or spiritual care is required. Preference will be given to a candidate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Theological Studies or related field, or experience in a similar Chaplain role.
- Paxton Ministries maintains a covenant relationship with the Brethren in Christ Church and accordingly this position will teach Christian faith and Biblical studies within the framework of the Brethren in Christ understanding of Christian discipleship.
- Experience in providing home care, long-term care, and/or experience in a similar Human Service agency is preferred.
- This position requires a committed Christian with a heart for working with mentally and emotionally challenged adults in a Christian residential care setting.
- Driving a vehicle for business purposes is a possibility for this position. That requires that he/she have a valid driver’s license, an acceptable MVR upon hire, and must at all times meet the guidelines in the Personnel Manual for an acceptable driving record.
Physical, Social, Emotional, and Spiritual Requirements:
- Physical: Ability to accomplish the tasks associated with this position is essential, including standing for 2 hours, lifting up to 10-20 lbs. occasionally, frequent motions including but not limited to pulling, pushing, twisting, kneeling, reaching.
- Social: Strong rapport with staff, residents, families, and professionals is essential.
- Emotional: Skills of perception, understanding and caring for people are essential. He/she must be patient, calm under pressure, emotionally stable, and not easily-provoked.
- Spiritual: In a visible role, this position requires spiritual insight, maturity and patience, which comes out of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Salary : $16 - $20
