School Committee Clerk
12-month position

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The School Committee Clerk is responsible for providing comprehensive administrative support to the School Committee, including coordinating meetings, maintaining official records, and ensuring compliance with Rhode Island open meetings and public records requirements. This position supports key administrative functions including APRA requests.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
School Committee Support
Schedule, coordinate, and attend all School Committee meetings, including regular, special, and subcommittee meetings
Prepare and distribute meeting agendas, packets, and supporting materials
Record, transcribe, and maintain accurate meeting minutes
Submit approved meeting minutes and agendas to the Rhode Island Secretary of State Open Meetings website in compliance with state requirements
Maintain official records of School Committee actions, policies, and documentation
Ensure compliance with Open Meetings Act (OMA) requirements, including public posting timelines
Coordinate logistics for meetings (location, technology, public access, etc.)
Serve as liaison between School Committee members, administration, and the public as needed
Assist with APRA (Access to Public Records Act) requests, including document gathering and tracking
Qualifications
Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree
Prior experience in administrative support, preferably in a school district or municipal setting
Knowledge of Rhode Island Open Meetings Act and APRA regulations preferred
Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including minute-taking and transcription
High level of confidentiality and professionalism
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and document management systems
Bi-Lingual Preferred
Working Conditions
Ability to attend evening meetings on a regular basis
Office-based work with occasional need for flexibility in schedule
