Position Overview
The Hiring and Training Coordinator is responsible for managing the hiring pipeline and coordinating the onboarding and early training experience for new team members. This role helps ensure Pawsitive Dawg Walking and Pet Sitting stays appropriately staffed, brings in the right people, and provides a clear, organized, and supportive experience from application through the first 90 days of employment.
This position is ideal for someone who genuinely loves animals, cares deeply about their well being, and understands what excellent pet care looks like in real life. This role includes hands on, in the field training to ensure new team members are meeting our standards and are fully prepared to provide safe, thoughtful, and top notch care to the pets and families we serve.
The ideal person for this role also truly enjoys working with people and helping them grow into the best version of themselves. They should be passionate about tracking data and progress, coaching, mentoring, and developing team members with patience, clarity, and encouragement while also being able to uphold expectations and accountability.
In addition to hiring and training, this person will play an important role in creating, improving, and maintaining sustainable systems and processes that support long term success. Core Responsibilities
- Manage the hiring pipeline by reviewing applications, responding to candidates, screening resumes, and scheduling interviews
- Create and post job ads designed to attract qualified, compassionate, and dependable candidates who align with our standards and values
- Conduct interviews, coordinate second interviews or shadow shifts when needed, and complete reference checks
- Extend conditional offers and coordinate background checks
- Maintain accurate and up to date hiring records, candidate trackers, and status updates
- Guide new hires through onboarding once they accept an offer
- Send welcome communication and confirm next steps, orientation details, training schedules, and onboarding timelines
- Ensure required paperwork and onboarding tasks are completed before training begins
- Provide hands on, in the field training and support for new team members to ensure they are meeting company expectations and providing top notch pet care
- Observe new hires in real working situations and give clear, supportive, and constructive feedback to help them grow
- Help ensure team members are following company standards related to safety, pet handling, professionalism, communication, and quality of care
- Build and coordinate training schedules for new hires
- Communicate with trainers and leadership to keep training shifts organized, efficient, and well supported
- Track attendance, training completion, assessments, and progress notes
- Review trainer feedback and trainee self assessments
- Check in with trainees during training and help facilitate end of training evaluations and next step planning
- Support new team members through their first 30 days by conducting check ins, gathering feedback, and identifying areas where additional support may be needed
- Coach and develop team members with the goal of helping them grow into confident, capable, and successful pet care professionals
- Help create, improve, and maintain sustainable systems, processes, and training tools that support long term consistency and success
- Identify patterns in candidate success, training struggles, and early turnover, and share recommendations for improvement with leadership
- Serve as a supportive resource for staff questions and concerns while helping foster a positive, inclusive, and team focused culture
- A genuine love for animals and a strong commitment to their safety, comfort, and overall well being
- 1 years of experience in pet care, such as dog walking, pet sitting, veterinary care, daycare, grooming, or a related field, preferred
- Strong understanding of what high quality, professional pet care looks like in real life settings
- 3 years of experience in hiring, training, onboarding, staff development, coaching, or team leadership strongly preferred
- Passion for working with people and helping them learn, grow, and succeed
- Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and stay organized in a fast paced environment
- Ability to assess people, provide feedback, and support growth with professionalism, warmth, and accountability
- Comfort using or learning technology and software for scheduling, communication, documentation, and record keeping
- Ability to build and improve systems and processes in a way that supports sustainability and long term success
