Duties
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures with precision and care.
- Prepare and assist with high volume spay/neuter clinic.
- Applying monthly preventative to all animals onsite and in foster care.
- Transporting animals to and from vet appointments.
- Perform animal restraint and handling using humane techniques to ensure safety for both pets and staff. Being comfortable being able to handle animals that may be stressed or fractious.
- Conduct blood work tests to aid in accurate diagnoses.
- Prepare animals for procedures by administering anesthesia, monitoring vital signs, and maintaining aseptic techniques.
- Support animal husbandry practices by feeding, cleaning enclosures, and monitoring health status.
- Handle animal catheterization, injections, and medication administration following veterinary critical care standards.
- Maintain detailed records of treatments, laboratory results and patient progress in compliance with clinic protocols.
- Data entry of animals and their medical histories into our database; experience with ShelterLuv and Google Docs a plus.
- Daily verbal and written communication with the public and staff over the phone, direct contact and email.
- Maintaining a clean, organized and functional workspace.
- Able to work independently, self-manage and go above and beyond.
- Handling potentially difficult and awkward conversations with the public in a professional manner.
- Able to be flexible and manage multiple tasks despite frequent interruptions.
- Have the utmost compassion for the animals in our care.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Veterinary Technician or similar role with veterinary technician certification preferred.
- Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal physiology, anatomy, and veterinary critical care practices.
- Hands-on experience with animal handling and restraint techniques.
- Ability to handle diverse animals confidently including dogs and cats.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with the public and team members effectively.
- Ability to work efficiently while maintaining attention to detail.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and perform manual tasks involving lifting or restraining animals.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $16.50 per hour
Expected hours: 25 per week
