Overview
PAWS Chicago is seeking a compassionate, mission-driven Shelter Medicine Veterinarian to join our dynamic team of animal welfare professionals. This role focuses on providing medical care to animals in our shelter population from intake to adoption, ensuring they receive high-quality, timely care while they await their forever homes.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform physical exams for shelter and foster population
- Administer core and risk-based vaccinations for shelter dogs and cats
- Diagnose and treat medical conditions with a focus on population health and individual welfare
- Develop diagnostic and treatment plans for common and complex infectious diseases
- Conduct medical rounds and collaborate with veterinary technicians and animal care staff
- Comfort with providing emergency and intensive patient care as needed
- Perform minor or sedated procedures (e.g., wound care, laceration repair, etc.)
- Coordinate with our Spay/Neuter Clinic team for any advanced procedures (enucleation, amputations, etc.)
- Collaborate closely with the Director of Shelter Medicine and Head of Medical Operations to advance care protocols and support medical decision-making
