Duties
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures by preparing animals and equipment.
- Perform animal restraint and handling with confidence, ensuring safety for both animals and staff.
- Conduct laboratory tests, prepare samples, and interpret basic results to aid in diagnosis.
- Maintain accurate medical records, including treatment plans, medication logs, and patient histories.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by veterinarians while following aseptic techniques.
- Support pet owners with pet care advice, feeding instructions, and post-operative care.
- Handle animal catheterization, X-ray procedures, and other technical tasks with precision and care.
- Manage kennel duties such as cleaning, feeding, and monitoring animals to ensure their comfort and safety.
- Assist with dental procedures by understanding dental terminology and supporting dental cleanings or treatments.
- Contribute to animal husbandry efforts by caring for animals’ daily needs across different species including dogs, cats, and small mammals.
Skills
- Proven kennel experience combined with animal husbandry skills for diverse species.
- Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and critical care practices.
- Skilled in animal restraint techniques for safe handling during examinations or procedures.
- Laboratory experience including sample collection, processing, and interpretation of results.
- Experience with radiography (X-ray) procedures and understanding of imaging protocols.
- Ability to communicate effectively with pet owners about pet care, grooming needs, and health concerns.
- Familiarity with aseptic techniques essential for surgical preparation and infection control.
