The Shop and Yard Assistant will assist the shop and parts teams perform a variety of general maintenance duties which include electrical, mechanical, carpentry, and construction in the maintenance and repair of PRS facilities and equipment. Perform Environmental related inspections and document findings for Storm Water, Hazardous Waste and fuel storage programs.

Primary Responsibilities
- Inspects buildings, electrical systems, grounds, and equipment to ensure safe, well-maintained conditions, identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair
- Performs minor troubleshooting and repairs; replace light bulbs, ballasts and fuses
- Assists with preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on HVAC system, changing filters, bearings
- Completes maintenance work orders as assigned and in a timely manner
- Identifies and perform basic service and repair on plumbing fixtures; open clogged lines and drains
- Identifies and assist with carpentry and repair work
- Operates a variety of machinery, equipment and tools including saws, router, drills, sanders, planers, drill presses and various hand tools
- Maintains inventory of tools, supplies, and equipment; recommend tools, supplies, and equipment for purchase
- Performs a variety of locksmith duties; install, repair, and replace locks on doors
- Inspects, service, and maintains operational functionality of doors and windows
- Installs or replace plugs, switches, outlets
- Assists with moving loading, unloading and storing supplies, furniture and equipment
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Ability to follow safe work practices and wear all required personal protection equipment for the task (safety glasses/shield, hardhat, safety boots and gloves)
- Ability to independently lift 50 - 75lb
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to perform heavy physical labor exposed to weather elements, noise, dust, and temperature extremes (hot/cold), and dirty/greasy environment
- Ability to operate computer and/or other related equipment
- Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and deal with challenges/issues
- Must demonstrate strong ethics, interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
- Ensure that all activities are conducted within the established PRS policies and Guidelines
- Basic ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, or oral instruction on a variety of structures related to the construction project
- Ability to absorb and retain formalized training
- Communicate effectively in a professional, tactful and courteous manner with employees and the general public
- Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe manner and with minimal supervision
- Ability to perform safety techniques and procedures while using chemicals, power tools, hand tools and equipment; knowledge of proper lifting techniques; ability to operate heavy equipment; understanding of methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in maintenance, repair and electrical work; ability to properly perform basic welding; knowledge of department and PRS policies, procedures, and practices with the ability to answer work related questions; and/or interpret and apply these guidelines correctly in various situations
- Ability to use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely; understanding of building codes, preferably
- “International Building Code” (IBC). Ability to learn and apply proper maintenance procedures and use of
- Ability to work occasional overtime, weekends, or be on call as necessary
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience preferred
- Basic computer knowledge and experience using Microsoft programs
- Must have valid driver license and an acceptable driving record
