We are looking for a skilled Backhoe Operator to safely and efficiently operate backhoes on construction and utility projects. This role is responsible for digging, trenching, grading, and backfilling in support of site prep, drainage, utility installation, and general excavation work. The ideal candidate has experience operating heavy equipment, understands jobsite safety, and takes pride in delivering high-quality work.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities::
- Operate a backhoe to excavate, load, grade, and backfill according to job specifications
- Read and interpret site plans, grade stakes, and job instructions
- Work with ground crew and foreman to ensure smooth operation and communication on the job site
- Perform daily pre- and post-operation inspections and report any mechanical issues
- Adjust machine settings and bucket attachments as needed for different excavation needs
- Ensure excavation is done to the correct depth, slope, and alignment
- Maintain safe distances from underground utilities and other hazards
- Comply with all safety regulations, company policies, and project requirements
- Assist with other duties (labor, flagging, general site work) when equipment is not in use
- Keep machine clean and fueled at the end of each day
- Perform additional duties as assigned

- 2 years of experience operating a backhoe or other heavy equipment
- Familiarity with excavation for utilities, storm drains, catch basins, or foundations preferred
- Ability to read grade stakes and work from jobsite drawings
- Knowledge of jobsite safety procedures and trench protection requirements
- Strong attention to detail and hand-eye coordination
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred
- Ability to work long hours, including weekends and evenings, as needed
- Must be willing to travel overnight when projects are outside the local area
