Job Summary:
The Day Porter is a vital and supportive member of the PCSD team, working collaboratively with educators, support staff, and administration to achieve the shared goal of ensuring all students receive the education they need to succeed both today and tomorrow. This role is performed within a school environment, overseen by the school principal, where teamwork and dedication to student success are paramount.
All staff are expected to fully adhere to the ethical standards set forth by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, continuously demonstrating a strong understanding of the tasks and responsibilities their roles require. Primary Function: Maintains buildings and adjacent grounds in a clean, orderly, and secure condition.

Regular exposure to fumes, dust and odors

Seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions
Ability to work indoors and outdoors during all types of weather including hot, cold, rainy, humid, and dry conditions
Ability to lift and transport up to 40 pounds over short distances and short periods of time
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate specialized equipment
Qualifications:
Minimum of high school diploma or GED
Good oral and written communication skills
The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.
Essential Functions:
1.
Maintains all equipment and tools necessary to perform the responsibilities of the position
2.
Inspect equipment for safe and efficient operation
3.
Maintain proper records of preventive maintenance schedule
4.
Initiates and completes assigned projects in a timely manner
5.
Work without constant supervision
6.
Promotes good relations and displays a positive image with parents, students, and staff
7.
Assist with completion of trade and non-trade specific maintenance tasks
8.
Perform routine custodial activities individually or as a part of a crew at an assigned facility
9.
Sweep, scrub, mop, strip, wax and polish floors
10.
Vacuum rugs and carpets in classrooms, offices, workshops, and other work areas
11.
Spot clean and shampoo carpets
12.
Clean classrooms, cafeterias, lounges, offices, facilities, and adjacent grounds as assigned
13.
Empty waste receptacles
14.
Remove gum and graffiti as needed
15.
Clean and disinfect drinking fountains and restroom facilities including sinks, toilets, and urinals
16.
Fill dispensers with towels, soap, toilet paper and other items
17.
Clean mirrors, tile and windows
18.
Unclog drains and toilets
19.
Pick up paper and other debris from school grounds, walkways, and areas adjacent to school facilities
20.
Sweep concrete surfaces adjacent to school building
21.
Perform various light maintenance activities including replacing light bulbs and tubes, replacing air filters, cleaning chalkboards and erasers, and emptying pencil sharpeners
22.
Clean tables, chairs and floors after breakfast, lunch and all periods as assigned
23.
Lock and unlock doors and gates and set alarms as appropriate
24.
Maintain security of assigned areas according to established guidelines
25.
Operate custodial equipment such as vacuums, mops, strippers, steam cleaners, small hand and power tools, buffer/scrubber machines and other equipment as assigned
26.
Move and arrange furniture and equipment for meetings and special events; prepare classrooms and multi-purpose rooms for special events or meetings; clean up furniture, equipment and debris following these events
27.
Perform a variety of routine general maintenance and repairs on equipment and furniture as assigned
28.
Monitor inventory levels of custodial supplies and equipment as directed, communicating the need for supplies and equipment to supervisor
29.
Reports immediately any issues that may have an impact to school or employee safety to the appropriate administrator
30.
Perform other duties as assigned by Superintendent or designee.
