Paul Cuffee Middle School seeks responsible, caring adults with experience teaching (or assisting) in an urban school setting.
As a Per Diem Substitute, you will be called on an “as needed” basis. Every effort is made to schedule your workdays in advance. Hours of employment are generally 8:15 am to 3:45 pm on assigned days; however, these times may vary depending on the specific assignment.
Job Description
- Reports to the main office at the assigned building upon arrival.
- Reviews and implements daily lesson plans for assigned students. Follows classroom and program schedules during the school day. Provides an accurate reporting of student progress at the end of the day.
- Supervises students at all times in accordance with policies for student health and safety.
- Assumes responsibility for overseeing student behavior in classroom, hallways, and during lunch and recess periods. Clearly defines expectations and limits, and encourages student self-discipline.
- Maintains a professional, confidential, and ethical relationship with supervisors, colleagues, and students at all times.
- Follows established procedures and policies, and federal and state regulations in all matters of employment.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- RI Department of Education certification OR Bachelor's degree OR Associate's degree OR attainment of junior status as an undergraduate student
- Ability to recognize the individuality and uniqueness of each student and treat him/her with respect and dignity
- Ability to engage intellectually and physically in all components of the educational process
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with supervisors, colleagues, and students
- National background check required
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required
