The Literacy Instructional Coach is a critical lever in improving student achievement. The role of the coach is to build teacher capacity and their understanding of instructional practices as related to High Quality Curriculum Materials, Common Core Standards and Data Driven Instruction. The instructional coach is a learner who models continuous improvement and goes above and beyond to ensure student success.They promote reflection, facilitate deep learning for individuals and groups, provide guidance and structure, and focus on strengths, collaboration and common issues of concern. They are responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching and providing feedback to teachers. They model a passion for urban education reform and leadership.
This is NOT a supervisory position and DOES NOT include evaluation of colleagues.
DUTIES
Instructional Support:
- Maintains a caseload of 3-5 coachees participating in 6 week coaching cycles,tailoring the coaching model to the needs of each coachee.
- Facilitates regular, scheduled collaborative learning experiences for grade level teams and other collaborative teams at the school.
- Leads student centered cycles of coaching using the Student Centered Coaching model.
- Provide expert knowledge about HQCM and effective instructional strategies to raise student achievement and close achievement gaps.
- Supports teachers and teams with lesson design and reflection focused on curriculum.
- Models instructional strategies, use of small learning groups,and other effective practices.
- Assist teachers in grounding instruction in relevant research, district standards, and assessment data.
- Provide content-focused coaching to promote effective instruction and student learning.
- Observes & provides feedback on instructional practice to teachers.
Collaborative Practices:
- Collaborates with the principal, Teaching & Learning Team, and other coaches to improve practice and outcomes, improve literacy systems, and increase alignment and implementation of literacy instruction & HQCM both within the lower school and across the district.
- Member of school District Literacy Team; meets regularly with this team as scheduled and participates in the team’s work.
- Builds strong, trusting relationships with coachees
- Participate in collaborative PLC team meetings to establish essential skills, administer common assessments, analyze data, and implement intervention plans.
- Promote and model peer collaboration to enhance instructional practices.
- Plans coaching & other meetings, including scripting key questions, based on individual teacher needs and goals.
- Keeps records, logs, and notes of coaching sessions, coaching cycles, data related to the goals of coachees and coachee progress.
- Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Rhode Island State Teaching Certification in Elementary Education
- Rhode Island State Teaching Certification in Reading Specialist preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of successful classroom teaching experience
- Demonstrated expert knowledge in EL Education curriculum preferred
- Science of Reading proficiency level training required
- Evidence of understanding of characteristics of adult learners
- Evidence of expert level facilitation, collaboration and interpersonal skills
- National background check (after offer)
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required

Salary : $45,636 - $85,955
