The Document Control and Configuration Engineer plays a pivotal role in bridging from product development to manufacturing by supporting document control, component engineering, configuration and compliance management within Patton’s Engineering department. This cross-functional position supports the full product lifecycle, from concept through manufacturing, thereby ensuring seamless integration of Engineering processes, tools, and standards. The role also includes ingesting and integrating designs from acquired companies and customers into Patton’s Engineering ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
Product Lifecycle Management (PLM):
The Document Control and Configuration Engineer plays a pivotal role in bridging from product development to manufacturing by supporting document control, component engineering, configuration and compliance management within Patton’s Engineering department. This cross-functional position supports the full product lifecycle, from concept through manufacturing, thereby ensuring seamless integration of Engineering processes, tools, and standards. The role also includes ingesting and integrating designs from acquired companies and customers into Patton’s Engineering ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
Product Lifecycle Management (PLM):
- Manage and improve Patton’s PLM efforts and system, ensuring data integrity and usability.
- Manage the ongoing import, organization, and lifecycle tracking of engineering artifacts and documentation.
- Provide user support, training, and process improvements to enhance PLM adoption and efficiency.
- Maintain component data and workflows in the ERP and PLM systems.
- Create and manage Bills of Materials.
- Identify alternate sources and manage qualification of new components based on lifecycle, cost, and availability.
- Support selection of critical components for new designs and cost reduction in existing ones.
- Monitor and manage component obsolescence and compliance (RoHS, REACH, conflict minerals).
- Manage creation, revision, and distribution of engineering and manufacturing documents.
- Serve as the primary owner of the Engineering Change Control process, ensuring timely and accurate implementation of changes across systems and teams.
- Support the definition and continuous improvement of respective engineering processes.
- Ensure manufacturing documentation and artifacts are provided according to latest approved configuration.
- Ensure documentation aligns with internal standards and external requirements.
- Work in cooperation with Patton’s Senior Manager for Quality and Compliance to ensure products meet regulatory standards (UL, CE, RoHS, REACH, etc.).
- Prepare and maintain documentation for regulatory submissions and audits.
- Coordinate with third-party labs for compliance testing and certification.
- Lead the technical ingestion of designs and documentation from acquired companies and customers.
- Standardize and import external design data into Patton’s PLM, ERP, ECAD, and documentation systems.
- Ensure compliance with Patton’s engineering standards and processes during integration.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve compatibility, quality, and documentation issues.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in engineering services, PLM systems, and product development support.
- Proficiency with PLM tools (Aras and/or Infor PLM preferred) and document control systems.
- Understanding of electronics and electro-mechanical components.
- Experience integrating external or legacy designs into modern engineering systems is a plus.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance standards for electronic products.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
