Patterson Sheridan, LLP is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated entry-level Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. This position is ideal for a recent accounting graduate or an individual with up to two years of accounting experience who is looking to build a strong foundation in corporate accounting. The Staff Accountant will assist with day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities while ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.
Essential Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank accounts, and balance sheet accounts.
- Post and reconcile USPTO fees.
- Process foreign and domestic accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions as needed.
- Process trust receipts and trust disbursements under direction of the billing attorney.
- Maintain accurate accounting records with supporting documentation.
- Assist with preparing financial statements and internal reports.
- Support payroll accounting and expense reporting, as applicable.
- Maintain and update timekeeper records in the accounting database to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Assist with year-end audit preparation.
- Identify discrepancies and work with team members to resolve accounting issues.
- Follow compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and internal controls.
- Assist with special projects and process improvement initiatives.
- Communicate professionally with internal team members, partners, vendors, foreign agents, and outside payment processors.
- Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
Experience
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of Elite 3E preferred but not required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to effectively work/communicate with partners and all levels of Firm personnel.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Willingness to learn new systems, processes, and accounting concepts.
