Smart Grid Engineering Manager
The ideal candidate for this position will have experience providing a wide range of professional smart grid engineering and consulting services. Key skills: Managing people and projects, collaborating with other engineering specialties, client relationship development, systems and process engineering, power system knowledge, proposal writing. Engagements may include distribution or transmission utilities, commercial or industrial facilities, data centers, and power plants both conventional and renewable.
Key Responsibilities
· Initiate, maintain, and improve client relationships for business development
· Generate proposals by making time and travel estimates for a given general scope of work or client problem
· Engineer smart grid system solutions for clients in at least, but not limited to, the following areas: SCADA, AMI, utility communications, outage management, substation and distribution automation
· Design integration of DER into the network, including energy storage and microgrids
· Consult on high level generation - create a concept and build a team to help existing Data Center clients
· Provide technical and business practice consulting services involving Smart Grid technologies
· Personnel and project leadership
· Ability to mentor senior engineers and early-career staff
· Practice strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
· Travel to project sites to gather design information; make assessments of existing systems; provide technical advice; troubleshoot issues; and test/commission control schemes and systems
· Create comprehensive and complete technical reports at key points in a project
· Stay current on industry trends and best practices; independently investigate and learn about new software, equipment, and communication protocols
· Strategic thinking for the Engineering & Surveying department
· Experience with grant writing for utilities, a plus

Selection CriteriaEssential
· B.S. in Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program
· Business development experience
· Experience on utility smart grid projects as well as the ability to communicate the overall system solution and organize tasks for completion
· Knowledge of engineering design methods, communication technologies, and power systems
· The ability and willingness to travel approximately 40% annually
· The ability and willingness to work extended hours to meet project deadlines
· Must have insured vehicle and be legally eligible to drive in the U.S.
· Commitment to comply with company and job site safety policies
· Must submit to background checks as a condition of employment; others may be required per specific client requirements
Desirable
· Professional Engineer (P.E.) or EIT certified (passed FE Exam) with the intent to pursue P.E. license
· 7 years relevant work experience
· 2 years management experience
