Job Overview

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Contents Packager to join our packout team. In this role, you will be responsible for safely packing, inventorying, and transporting personal belongings and larger content items from residential and commercial properties that have experienced water, fire, or mold damage. This position plays a critical role in helping customers recover their valued possessions during challenging times by ensuring items are handled with care, properly documented, and prepared for cleaning, storage, and eventual return.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Pack-Out Operations:

-Safely pack personal belongings, furniture, electronics, documents, and larger content items from damaged properties following company guidelines and industry standards​

-Wrap, pad, and secure items to prevent additional damage during transport using appropriate packing materials including boxes, bubble wrap, padding, and shrink wrap​

-Disassemble and reassemble furniture and larger items as needed for safe transport and storage​

-Load packed items securely onto trucks, ensuring proper weight distribution and stability​

Inventory Management:

-Create detailed inventories of all packed items using barcode scanning systems and digital tracking software​

-Photograph each item and document its condition prior to packing​

-Label all boxes and items accurately with corresponding inventory numbers and room locations​

-Verify inventory accuracy by scanning items from job site to truck, truck to warehouse, and throughout the restoration process​

Customer Service and Communication:

-Provide compassionate and professional service to customers experiencing stressful situations due to property damage​

-Communicate clearly with customers about the pack-out process, timelines, and item handling procedures​

-Notify customers of expected arrival times and any issues encountered during the packing process​

-Maintain confidentiality and treat all customer property with respect and care​

Transportation and Warehouse Operations:

-Drive company box trucks to transport items to climate-controlled warehouse facilities for cleaning and storage​

-Unload items carefully at the warehouse and place them in designated storage areas following organizational protocols​

-Assist with cleaning operations including wiping down items or processing textiles through cleaning equipment​

-Participate in pack-back operations by delivering restored items to customers and placing them in their original locations​

Safety and Workplace Standards:

-Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, safety glasses, respirators, coveralls, and steel-toed boots as required for exposure to water damage, fire residue, mold, and other hazardous materials​

-Follow all company safety protocols and OSHA regulations when working in damaged environments​

-Maintain clean and organized work areas both on job sites and in warehouse settings​

-Identify and report safety hazards including unstable structures, sharp objects, and contaminated materials​

-Properly handle hazardous materials and follow decontamination procedures for tools, equipment, and vehicles​

Additional Responsibilities:

-Complete daily work logs, delivery vehicle inspection reports (DVIRs), and other required paperwork​

-Clean, inspect, and fuel delivery trucks at the end of each shift​

-Work collaboratively with restoration technicians, project managers, and other team members​

-Respond to emergency call-outs and work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and extended shifts during disaster recovery situations​

Physical Demands:

This position requires significant physical stamina and strength. Candidates must be able to:​

-Lift and carry items weighing up to 75-100 pounds unassisted, with heavier items moved with assistance

-Stand and walk for extended periods, often 8 hours per day

-Perform frequent bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, reaching, pushing, and pulling throughout the workday

-Work in various weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and humidity

-Navigate tight spaces, crawl spaces, attics, and basements for extended periods

-Climb ladders and stairs while carrying items and equipment

-Maintain physical activity and work pace to meet packing and transportation deadlines

Work Environment:

-Box Packagers work in diverse and often challenging environments:​

-Damaged residential and commercial properties affected by water, fire, smoke, and mold

-Properties with unstable structural components, debris-covered walkways, and limited lighting

-Exposure to hazardous materials including smoke residue, soot, mold spores, asbestos, sewage, and chemical contaminants

-Climate-controlled warehouse facilities with forklift traffic and inventory storage systems

-Outdoor conditions during loading and unloading operations

-Fast-paced, time-sensitive work environment requiring efficiency and attention to detail

Qualifications

Required:

-High school diploma or GED equivalent​

-Valid driver's license with clean driving record​

-Ability to pass background check, drug screening, and driving record check​

-Strong communication skills and ability to follow verbal and written instructions​

-Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team​

-Basic organizational skills and attention to detail​

-Professional appearance and demeanor​

Preferred:

-Previous experience in moving, packing, furniture handling, restoration, or warehouse operations​

-Experience driving box trucks or similar commercial vehicles​

-Familiarity with inventory management systems and barcode scanning technology​

-IICRC certification in Contents Processing or Water Restoration (training may be provided)​

-Customer service experience in residential or commercial settings​

Compensation and Benefits:

-Competitive hourly wage: $20-$25 per hour depending on experience​
