The lab is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and is interested in gaining experience across multiple laboratory disciplines.
Position Summary
The High Complexity Laboratory Technician will perform testing and laboratory operations in both toxicology and molecular diagnostics. Responsibilities include specimen processing, instrument operation, quality control, data review, documentation, and general laboratory support. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work with advanced laboratory technologies while developing expertise across multiple testing platforms.
ResponsibilitiesToxicology
- Perform specimen accessioning, processing, and preparation for toxicology testing.
- Operate and maintain automated immunoassay analyzers used for urine drug screening.
- Assist with LC-MS/MS workflows including sample preparation, batch setup, and routine maintenance.
- Review quality control, calibration, and patient results for accuracy and completeness.
- Troubleshoot testing issues and escalate concerns as appropriate.
Molecular Diagnostics
- Perform PCR-based testing for UTI, respiratory pathogen, wound, pharmacogenetic (PGx), and other molecular panels.
- Prepare reagents, controls, and patient specimens according to established SOPs.
- Operate QuantStudio and other molecular testing platforms.
- Review amplification curves and quality metrics prior to result release.
- Maintain compliance with contamination control and molecular workflow requirements.
General Laboratory Duties
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly instrument maintenance.
- Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with CLIA, CAP/COLA, and laboratory requirements.
- Participate in quality assurance, competency assessments, proficiency testing, and continuing education activities.
- Assist with inventory management, reagent tracking, and supply ordering.
- Support laboratory inspections and accreditation activities.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory environment.
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Medical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related laboratory science.
- Must meet CLIA requirements for High Complexity Testing Personnel.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred
- Experience in a clinical laboratory environment.
- Experience with PCR or molecular diagnostic testing.
- Experience with LC-MS/MS toxicology testing.
- Experience with automated chemistry or immunoassay analyzers.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS).
- ASCP certification or eligibility is a plus but not required.
Physical Requirements
