What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dental Laboratory Technician position at Patriot Dental Lab?
Growth & Compensation Because the ceramist position is one of the more advanced roles you work your way up to, we strongly prefer candidates who already have some prior dental lab experience. However, if you don't have years of experience specifically as a ceramist yet, we still want to hear from you! Candidates who are still working their way up will start at a training wage, but Patriot Dental Lab invests heavily in our people. We will put you through our training program and pay 100% of the costs for you to become a Certified Dental Technician (CDT). As soon as you earn your certification, you'll get a pay bump to match your new skills.
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Ceramist to join our dental laboratory team. This is a hands-on, skilled trade position where you will craft, layer, and finish porcelain and ceramic dental restorations — including crowns, bridges, veneers, and implant restorations — to achieve lifelike aesthetics and precise fit.
This is not a short-term position. We are looking for someone who is committed to building a long-term career in dental ceramics. You will be trained and mentored to develop the artistry, technique, and eye for detail that defines an exceptional ceramist. Mastery takes time, and we invest in individuals who are in it for the long haul.
Responsibilities
- Layer, build up, and finish porcelain and ceramic restorations to match natural tooth shade, contour, and translucency
- Work from prescriptions, shade guides, and photographs to achieve accurate aesthetic results
- Stain, glaze, and characterize restorations for a natural appearance
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including porcelain ovens, handpieces, and pressing systems
- Collaborate with dentists and team members to meet quality standards and case requirements
- Maintain organized workstation and follow lab protocols
- Utilize computer systems for case tracking, digital shade matching, and lab management software
Qualifications
- Some dental laboratory knowledge or experience is preferred — but if you don't have it, we will teach you
- Interest in or experience with dental ceramics, fine arts, sculpture, or similar detail-oriented craft
- Basic computer proficiency — comfortable navigating software, email, and digital tools used in modern lab workflows
- Strong attention to detail and color perception
- Willingness to learn, take direction, and continuously improve your craft
- Patience and steady hands — this work demands precision
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to showing up every day
What We Offer
- Comprehensive, on-the-job training — no prior dental lab experience required
- A career path with real growth as your skills develop over time
- The opportunity to learn a highly specialized trade that combines science and artistry
- A supportive environment where craftsmanship is valued and excellence is the standard
This is a career, not just a job. If you take pride in your work, want to develop a skill set that lasts a lifetime, and are ready to invest in yourself for the long term — we want to hear from you.
