Duties
- Greet patients warmly, verify their information, and check them in efficiently using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as E clinical , Epic, Meditech, or Athenahealth.
- Manage appointment scheduling through medical office management software, ensuring optimal flow and minimal wait times.
- Verify insurance coverage, perform insurance eligibility checks, and handle insurance verification processes to facilitate accurate billing.
- Collect and document patient information accurately, review medical records for completeness, and assist with intake procedures.
- Answer multi-line phone systems with professional phone etiquette, direct calls appropriately, and handle patient inquiries with care.
- Support medical billing by coding procedures using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-10/ICD-9 codes, and assisting with documentation review for accuracy.
- Maintain organized medical records and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality.
- Assist with office management tasks such as filing, data entry, and managing electronic health records (EHR) systems like eClinicalWorks or Dentrix.
- Support clinical staff by coordinating care plans, scheduling follow-up appointments, and managing patient flow within the clinic environment.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), CPT coding, and medical billing procedures.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix or Eaglesoft for documentation and scheduling.
- Experience with insurance verification processes and Medicare/Medicaid billing requirements.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally in person and over the phone.
- Bilingual abilities are highly valued to serve diverse patient populations effectively.
- Prior clinic or dental office experience is preferred to understand workflow dynamics thoroughly.
- Computer literacy including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) along with typing skills such as 10-key typing for efficient data entry.
- Familiarity with health information management standards like HIPAA to ensure confidentiality at all times.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
