Job Title: Survivor Advocate

Position Location: Columbia, SC with some travel requirements

Reports To: Director of Crisis Services

Position Classification: Non-exempt

Salary Range: $35000 - $42,000

Position Description:

The Survivor Advocate will provide crisis intervention support, referral, personal and legal advocacy, and outreach to victims of sexual violence. Provide supportive services for victims and connect them with resources to assist them in their healing journey. Conduct outreach to increase program awareness and connections with needed services and information. Develop and maintain connections with agencies where victims may be referred. Demonstrate professionalism and leadership in all manners of service delivery to clients and community.

Duties and Expectations:

  • Maintain a welcome environment for current and prospective clients.
  • Show empathy to clients and put them at ease during difficult time.
  • Answer incoming and hotline office calls during business hours.
  • Provide supportive services to survivors of sexual assault/abuse and ensure survivors are connected to resources in the community.
  • Participate in staff on-call rotation to provide 24-hour hospital accompaniment and hotline crisis support.
  • Participate in the emergency contact rotation.
  • Conduct need assessments to identify where appropriate referrals are needed.
  • Conduct meetings and outreach with community partners for all areas related to legal and personal advocacy needs for survivors.
  • Build positive relationships with representatives of partner agencies.
  • Connect and share information about PTH services with community partners to increase awareness and client referrals.
  • Ensure all grant, operating standards, and program goals are met and documented.
  • Ensure quality of client services by tracking and monitoring client retention and satisfaction with services through organizational database platforms.
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly supervision and department staff meetings.
  • Travel to and provide supportive services to survivors of sexual violence at local schools and sheriff department as necessary, in all five (5) counties we serve.
  • Provide in person victim support to inmates of SCDC Correctional institutions/and or Columbia Police Department as necessary.
  • Assist Volunteer Services Department with recruiting and training volunteers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and skills needed:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in psychology, social work, public health, criminal justice or similar field preferred
  • Experience working with victims of trauma is required
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities and practices that create and support a trauma-informed environment for staff and survivors.
  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality and high ethical standards
  • Organization skills and ability to set priorities regarding documentation
  • Experience building relationships with community partners.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work independently; punctuality, cultural competency, professionalism, and excellent written and oral communication skills.

Knowledge and Skills needed

  • Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities and practices that create and support a trauma-informed environment for staff and survivors·
  • Organizational skills and ability to set priorities regarding documentation·
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with survivors·
  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality and high ethical standards·
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Schedule·

7.5-hour shift

Monday to Friday

Occasional evening and weekend availability
