Program Director
This position provides operational and component direction of a mentoring program for African American male students in grades 9-11 who reside in Detroit. The ideal candidate for this position is committed to high achievement. Program goals are achieved through a group mentoring model, with the aim of developing and enhancing soft skills. The outcome is young men capable of obtaining high-level success earlier and faster in their careers.
This position requires skills in program improvement and planning, collaboration, partnership development, parent engagement, and student goal achievement. The position reports to the Lead Mentor, who operates with a steering committee, both of which are accountable to the sponsoring fraternity.
The program provides an exceptional opportunity to prepare for success through mentoring and presentations by African American professionals in areas like Law, Business-Technology, or Medicine. Meetings occur on the fourth Saturday of the month. Meetings include: core topic reviews (especially soft skills), team-based problem solving, role playing, etc. Students who qualify are provided a paid 6-week summer employment opportunity with deep engagement in week-long corporate team challenges that allow for practice and improvement of leadership skills. Additional activities include college tours, courtroom visits, and unique facility visits to major companies. These activities provide experiences with career and professional settings. Students and parents receive regular updates on program activity and valuable information items on skill development and careers.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring operations occur smoothly and comply with legal guidelines and internal policies.
- Support planning, execution, and evaluation of measurement goals.
- Implementing evaluation strategies to monitor performance and determine improvement needs.
- Manage finance reporting, schedules, events, and resources to meet program objectives.
- Partner with fraternity members involved in planning, mentoring, presentations, measurement, problem-solving, and resolution.
- Generate reporting on program progress, performance data, and insights to management and stakeholders - Annual.
- Lead continuous improvement efforts to enhance program effectiveness, efficiency, and quality.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with mentoring, site visits, youth development, parent engagement, stakeholder communication, and risk management.
- Proactive problem-solving and resolution.
- Proactive identification of issues needing improvement and generation of strong solutions.
- Ability to mentor teams and foster a culture of accountability, safety, and improvement.
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards and best practices in mentor program measurement.
- Document management: Program documents, vendor agreements, hourly billing, timely invoices for expenses, and the generation of time sheets.
Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field, including but not limited to education, business administration, counseling, psychology, or marketing.

Performs job duties on-site as well as remotely. Transportation for travel to events and meetings. Handle light duties-meeting materials. Have a personal, secure computer and mobile cell phone to be used for carrying out the position's duties.
- Range: $25-35/hour pending experience
- Negotiable part-time structure
- Mileage reimbursement for meetings, exclusive of Monthly Mentorship Meetings
