Position: Mobile Unit Peer Support Specialist
Location: Pathway Healthcare Office
Position Role We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Mobile Unit Peer Support Specialist who provides recovery-oriented support to individuals receiving care through the Mobile Opioid Treatment Unit. This position uses lived experience, empathy, and recovery knowledge to help patients engage in and sustain treatment for opioid use disorder (OUD).
The Peer Support Specialist collaborates with clinical staff, operations, and community resources to help patients access care, overcome barriers, and stay connected to support services.
Key Responsibilities
1. Peer Support & Patient Engagement
- Provide peer-based support to patients, fostering a welcoming and recovery-oriented environment.
- Share lived experience, resources, and encouragement to help patients engage with treatment and recovery goals.
- Assist patients in connecting with community resources and support networks.
- Model and promote recovery-oriented values, respect, and cultural sensitivity.
- Encourage patient participation in treatment, follow-up appointments, and ongoing care.
2. Navigation & Resource Linkage
- Support patients in identifying personal recovery goals and assist with navigating available services.
- Provide warm hand-offs to community agencies, peer recovery groups, or supportive services as needed.
- Maintain current knowledge of community resources relevant to individuals with OUD.
3. Documentation & Compliance
- Document peer interactions accurately and in compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
- Maintain confidentiality and patient trust at all times.
- Participate in required training and quality assurance activities.
4. Collaboration & Representation
- Collaborate closely with clinical, operational, and outreach teams to support coordinated patient care.
- Represent the mobile unit professionally in community outreach events and resource fairs.
- Participate in staff meetings, team huddles, and ongoing training.
Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED required; Peer Support Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
· Minimum one (1) year of experience in behavioral health, recovery support, or social services setting.
· Demonstrated lived experience in recovery and ability to model recovery-oriented behavior.
· Strong interpersonal, listening, and communication skills.
· Familiarity with community resources and recovery networks.
· Proficient in basic computer and EMR systems.
· Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
· Comfortable working in a mobile unit and non-traditional care settings.
· CPR/BLS certification required prior to start date.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Work is primarily performed in a mobile clinic environment, which may involve outdoor settings and exposure to varying weather conditions, with occasional office-based duties.
- Must be able to sit, stand, and drive for extended periods.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate computers, medical instruments, and mobile devices.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs (supplies, equipment).
- Occasional exposure to biohazardous materials; proper PPE and protocols must be followed.
- Must be comfortable working in variable weather conditions and in a mobile unit setting.
Additional Information
This position is funded through a Tennessee state grant to support the expansion of opioid treatment access via mobile units. Continued employment is contingent upon ongoing funding,
