What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School Biology Teacher position at Path Milford?
PATH Milford homeschool co-op is seeking a faith-driven educator to lead our High School Biology class. This role of tutor is designed for an instructor who excels at bridging the wonders of the natural world with a biblical worldview, fostering both academic excellence and spiritual growth in a collaborative homeschool environment. This class meets one time a week for 90 minutes.
Key Responsibilities
- Instructional Leadership: Review weekly reading/homework assignments and facilitate weekly laboratory experiments for students while integrating Christian perspectives on creation and the complexity of living organisms.
- Curriculum Integration: Organize weekly reading assignments that meet high academic standards.
- Lab Management: Oversee the ordering of specimens, safe use of laboratory equipment, specimens, and chemicals; guide students through the scientific method and formal lab reporting.
- Student Mentorship: While students do most of the learning at home, the tutor will give constructive feedback, namely in the form of grading assignments, projects, and exams, maintaining clear communication with homeschooling parents regarding student expectations and progress.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Faith Commitment: A dedicated follower of Jesus Christ who agrees with our Statement of Faith and is eager to model Christian character to students.
- Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Life Sciences, or Science Education is preferred but not required.
- Teaching Experience: Prior experience teaching high school sciences and a love for the subject and the students is highly valued; experience within the homeschool community or a co-op setting is a plus.
- Communication Skills: Ability to explain complex biological concepts with the textbook as a guide and clearly lay out homework assignments.
- Logistics: Must be able to pass a background check and possess the organizational skills to manage a classroom effectively.
