Position Summary
The Overnight Direct Support Staff plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, structured, and supportive environment for PATH residents during overnight hours. This position provides supervision, safety monitoring, and responsive care while promoting resident dignity, well-being, and independence in alignment with PATH’s Program Policies.
This overnight position includes access to a designated private sleeping area with a bed in a warm, comfortable environment. While residents are typically resting during these hours, staff must remain on-site, available, and prepared to respond at any time. Rest periods are a benefit of the role but may be interrupted depending on resident needs.
Staff also enjoy complimentary meals and snacks provided during the shift, offering convenience and added comfort during overnight hours.
Key ResponsibilitiesResident Care & Supervision
- Conduct scheduled checks of residents and facility as required
- Provide continuous overnight supervision to ensure safety and security
- Respond appropriately to resident needs, crises, or emergencies
- Support nighttime routines and transitions
- Reinforce program policies and behavioral guidelines
- Model respectful behavior and maintain professional boundaries
- Provide calm, supportive interventions when residents experience distress
- Administer medications as trained and assigned
Safety & Facility Oversight
- Monitor facility security (doors, alarms, common areas)
- Ensure compliance with fire, safety, and emergency procedures
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and secure overnight environment
- Report safety concerns, incidents, or unusual activity promptly
- Complete required overnight shift responsibilities
- Provide overnight coverage for the other Overnight DSS position when the scheduled employee is unavailable due to planned time off, illness, or other approved or unexpected absence.
- Communicate significant overnight concerns, incidents, or follow-up needs to the appropriate supervisor and incoming staff at shift change
Documentation & Communication
- Complete shift notes, incident reports, and required documentation accurately and timely
- Communicate relevant observations and concerns to the appropriate team members
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and organizational privacy standards
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Ability to remain alert, attentive, and responsive throughout overnight shifts
- Strong observational, communication, and documentation skills
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- CPR/First Aid certification (provided by PATH)
- Medication Administration training (provided by PATH)
- Completion of Direct Support Staff training program
