What are the responsibilities and job description for the Experienced Cake Decorator position at Pastries A-La-Carte?

Pastries A-La-Carte, a family-owned bakery located in Pittsburgh's South Hills (right along the 51 bus line), is seeking a motivated candidate whose primary role is to decorate cakes, including wedding cakes, with artistic skill and good design.
To succeed, you should work quickly and efficiently, plan ahead, and be comfortable working on your feet the entirety of your shift, and should be dedicated to quality control, upholding our high standards of consistency and elegance.
You will be expected to maintain sanitation standards and follow safe food handling guidelines.
What will I do?
- Create and match colors using gel colors, icing and the airbrush tool with an understanding of color theory.
- Use a pastry bag and various tip points as artist’s tools to skillfully create a variety of flowers, borders, designs, and other artwork.
- Interpret inspiration photos and written design descriptions to craft cohesive, attractive cakes.
- Assemble, fill, and ice cakes.
- Stack tiered cakes with sufficient structural support.
- Decorate wedding cakes creating good balance and breathtaking centerpieces for important family moments.
- Reproduce existing cake designs.
- Have an artistic eye to utilize each cake like an artist’s canvas (after all, cakes are just edible art!).
Required Qualifications
- Able to follow directions and ask questions when you do not understand.
- Capable to stand for the duration of your shift
- Reliable to work as part of a team and independently.
- Daily cleaning and sanitizing your workstation and equipment.
- Adhere to food safety and hygiene requirements.
- Able to lift 25 lbs.
- Work during holidays and know extra hours are expected during holiday seasons as needed.
- Additional duties as required.
