Our fast-growing, high-end bakery is seeking a cookie finisher whose primary role is to finish our fancy cookies.
Pastries A-La-Carte is known in the Pittsburgh region for the caliber of our artistry and the care we put into quality ingredients and processes. Because of this, we are the official bake shop for the Pittsburgh Penguins! We are seeking a candidate who will uphold our high standards of consistency and elegance.
A successful candidate will:
- Understand color theory and appetizing create colors and color combinations
- Create and match colors using gel food color and icing
- Use a pastry bag and various tips to pipe uniform rosettes, understanding variables such as pressure and speed
- Be highly self-motivated and organized
- Be able to follow specific directions as well as listening to and applying feedback
- Demonstrate leadership and work as a contributing teammate with a collaborative spirit
- Practice quality control, identifying product that may not meet standards and bringing to Cookie Room Lead or other leadership team attention
- Recognize and take appropriate action if something candidate is working on seems incorrect
- Adhere to food safety and hygiene expectations
- Work cleanly and neatly and maintain clean and sanitary workspace and tools
- Comfortably stand for the duration of each shift
- Be able to lift 40 pounds
Position includes:
- Finishing cookies, including (but not limited to): Piping a variety of icings onto or into cookies; dipping in chocolate, ganache, or other liquids; drizzling chocolate
- Recreating existing products and potentially updating or creating new designs
- Mixing flavored icings according to existing recipes, including use of 20 quart mixer
- Daily inventorying of finished cookies in store backup to make to-do list
- Producing cookies to fulfill orders, providing sufficient lead time to aid packaging staff
- Adapting last minute requests while meeting deadlines
- Regularly inventorying cookies to ensure minimum stock is on hand at all times and to update list of needed items for bakers
- Scraping down mixing bowls, buckets, pastry bags, and utensils to avoid waste and maintain clean environment
- Cleaning dishes, table, floor, etc. at the end of each shift
- Communicating with and following direction from Cookie Room Lead in addition to other bakery leadership
Additional Expectations:
- Must be 16 years or older
- Work through holiday seasons, potentially including overtime during these busy periods. Most major holidays (and in some cases the following day) will be scheduled days off
- A few Sundays per year are mandatory production days
We are conveniently located on the PAT bus line (Y-46 Elizabeth Flyer).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $12.50 - $15.00 per hour
