Position Summary: Responsible for driving and operating various Line Operations vehicles, as well as maintaining and operating the component parts of the collection system.
Minimum Requirements
Requirements: Must have knowledge of the principles and methods used in the conveyance of wastewater, as well as comprehend the related laws, rules and regulations pertaining to the conveyance of wastewater and combined sewer overflows. Must understand both the occupational hazards involved in, along with the safety precautions that need to be exercised in, the conveyance of wastewater. Must be able to retain technical information. Mechanical and problem-solving aptitude, as well as computer literacy, are required. Must be able to read, write, communicate, and understand English sufficiently to perform the functions of the position and execute verbal and written directions.
Experience, License and Certification: Must possess and maintain a valid New Jersey driver's license. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B is required. CDL Class A is preferred. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in collection system operations and maintenance is required. A New Jersey Collection System C1 license is required (or must be actively pursuing a C1 License*). A Wastewater Treatment S1 license is preferred. A NJDOT Certified Traffic Control Coordinator certification is preferred. *Actively pursuing is defined as taking the associated State license exam at least two (2) times per year until the license is obtained.
Education: High school diploma or equivalency certificate required. Satisfactory completion of both the Introduction to Wastewater course and the Advanced Wastewater Collections course is required. Completion of the Advanced Wastewater Treatment course is preferred.
Physical Demands: Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation to ensure the health and safety of oneself or others is maintained. Perform physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, legs, and the whole body such as climbing (including ladders), lifting up to 50 lbs., balancing, walking, stooping and handling heavy objects. Must qualify for and possess the ability to perform entry into confined spaces while wearing proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as, but not limited to, canister and dust masks, as well as SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus), in compliance with PVSC’s Facial Hair Grooming Policy.
Working Conditions: Workers are employed in conditions associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system and will be required to work indoors and outdoors. Must be available for emergencies and job assignments on a 24-hour basis.
