The Maintenance/Janitor is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operation of hospice facility and equipment also responsible for cleanliness and sanitation throughout hospice facility ensuring a hygienic environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role involves performing preventive and corrective maintenance on a wide range of systems while adhering to strict health, safety, and regulatory standards critical to patient care and day to clean and disinfecting of patient rooms and common areas throughout facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, maintain, and repair infrastructure including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from clinical and administrative staff to minimize disruption to patient care.
- Ensure all life safety systems (e.g., fire alarms, sprinklers, emergency lighting) are operational and compliant with regulations
- Maintain cleanliness and functionality of maintenance areas, mechanical rooms, and utility spaces
- Document all maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs in compliance with policies and regulatory standards (e.g., Joint Commission, OSHA)
- Assist with installation and relocation of medical and non-medical equipment
- Perform minor carpentry, painting, and general facility upkeep
- Participate in emergency response procedures, including disaster preparedness drills and facility lockdowns
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs or inspections
- Clean and disinfect patient rooms, restrooms, and common areas using approved cleaning agents and procedures
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, floors daily and as needed
- Empty trash receptacles and dispose of medical and hazardous waste according to safety protocols
- Restock supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper in restrooms and patient areas
- Follow infection control procedures and comply with safety standards
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training preferred
- Minimum 2 years of experience in facility maintenance in a healthcare or institutional setting.
- Knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety
- Familiarity with healthcare regulations and infection control practices
- Ability to read blueprints, technical manuals, and safety codes
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Physical ability to lift, climb, and work in confined spaces
- Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety procedures
- Ability to work independently or as part of a teams
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Work Environment
- Operates in patient care areas, mechanical rooms, rooftops, and outdoor spaces
- May be exposed to biohazards, chemicals, and infectious materials (with proper PPE)
- On-call availability for emergencies, including nights, weekends, and holidays
