What are the responsibilities and job description for the Exercise Specialist II- Guadalupe, AZ position at Pascua Yaqui Tribe?
The Exercise Specialist II is responsible for organizing physical fitness activities for individuals and groups. Duties might include, physical assessments, facilitating fitness classes, organizing community events, preparing and maintaining equipment, recommending, and implementing exercise programs.
- Administer fitness testing/screening to determine health and fitness status.
- Make recommendations for and implements exercise prescription and programs.
- Instruct various group fitness classes including water aerobics to community members
- Monitor individual participant progress and maintains records of all initial and repeat assessments.
- Work with participants in adjusting exercise prescriptions and program to meet their needs.
- Provide information and instruction on proper use of exercise equipment.
- Develop, plan and coordinate physical fitness activities.
- Plan and provide exercise and health education sessions.
- Assist Fitness Supervisor in training the Exercise Specialist I.
- Actively collaborate with Diabetes Outreach and Recreation Staff for education, activities, and events.
- Participate in community-wide special events and education programs designed to prevent and control diabetes.
- Prepare materials for seminars, special events, and for on-site reference needs for program participants.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.

- Understand the limitations of participants who are diabetic or have other challenges with physical activity;
- Learn how to take Prepare announcements, flyers, calendars and other promotional materials;
- Work with all types of personalities and various individual needs;
- Direct program activities in absence of Fitness Supervisor;
- Follow written and verbal instructions;
- Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, management, Council members, and the public. Have ability to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions.
AND
- Must attend and complete CPR and First Aid Training within three (3) months of hire;
- Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License.
- Certified as a Personal Trainer;
- Certified as a Group Fitness Instructor;
- Must have and maintain CPR and First Aid Training, and other training designated by Fitness Supervisor;
- This position will require the incumbent to work non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends;
- Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card. Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in termination from this position.
