What are the responsibilities and job description for the Survey Instrument Technician position at Pasco County?
JOIN OUR TEAM AS A SURVEY INSTRUMENT TECHNICIAN!
Advanced technical surveying work performed in the field. Work involves the skilled use of surveying instruments and assisting the Survey Party Chief in basic surveying computation and daily operation of the field crew.
- Assists the Survey Party Chief in the physical surveying measurements of angles, vertical and horizontal distances, GPS data, drainage data (pipes and inverts), and profiles, as well as other Surveying data, etc.
- Sets up and operates all field surveying equipment including, but not limited to, total station, robotic total stations, GPS static and RTK setups, transit, level, and all other horizontal and vertical measuring equipment to ascertain surveying measurement information for the Party Chief and Surveying Division.
- Assists other survey party members, including the Survey Party Chief.
- Performs duties of Survey Aide, including all manual laboring duties when required.
- Clears survey lines through brush, trees, and swamp to allow line of sight between points to obtain angle and distance measurements.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects.
- Performs related work as required.
- Knowledge of surveying instruments and methods, proper field procedures and techniques as per County, state, and statute standards.
- Knowledge of mathematics, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Skill in the use of all County Surveying instruments deployed.
- Ability to record and interpret field notes accurately.
- Ability to do basic field calculations.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to operate a calculator.
PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects. Requires walking, stooping, and bending. Must be able to carry survey equipment. Requires working outdoors. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Two (2) years of experience as a Survey Aide with knowledge and use of surveying instruments.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Certified Survey Technician I or II preferred.
