The Recreation Site Supervisor is a responsible supervisory position of more than ordinary difficulty in the management of a Recreation Complex focusing on active recreation. Plans, organizes, coordinates, and administers a comprehensive recreation operation to include recreation programming.
Selects, trains, evaluates, and supervises full-time and part-time workers, and/or temporary contractual workers, instructors, and volunteers. Provides direct supervision of personnel in a Recreation Complex. Coordinates and/or conducts training and educational meetings for recreation staff and actively participates in professional development. Supervises the recreational programming of all park facilities including athletic fields, outdoor courts, recreation buildings, aquatic facilities, picnic areas, playgrounds, etc. Develops, coordinates, staffs, schedules, equips, supervises, and evaluates in-house and outside recreation programs, special events and activities for all members of the community. Initiates and maintains involvement with community groups, organizations, and individuals to determine community interests and needs and to stimulate participation and development of new facilities, activities, and programs. Coordinates with other departments, County staff and outside entities to ensure professional implementation of programs. Coordinates and recommends publicity plans for all programs utilizing various marketing techniques and communicates with the media. Prepares, evaluates, and controls recreation’s budget. Evaluates and recommends new revenue sources and maintains control of revenue generated. Assists with development of operating policies and establishes procedures, rules and regulations for specific program areas or facilities. Inspects, monitors, supervises and coordinates the operation and maintenance of all recreation functions. Requires pushing, pulling, lifting and moving heavy objects weighing up to 40lbs. Assists staff and performs related work as required.
- Knowledge of principles, practices and philosophy of public parks and recreation.
- Considerable knowledge of parks and recreation operations supervision, management, maintenance, programming and marketing techniques.
- Ability to organize and schedule, coordinate and administer programs.
- Ability to promote and maintain effective working relationships with potential and existing participants, community groups, staff, news media and general public.
- Ability to exhibit a clear understanding of management and supervision and the ability to supervise others.
- Ability to plan, organize, direct, supervise and control the work of others and issue oral and written instructions to accomplish tasks.
- Ability to plan, coordinate and supervise preparation of facilities for use by the public.
- Ability to follow, more than basic, oral and written instructions/directions.
- Excellent interpersonal/communication skills required.
- Skilled in public service problem solving.
- Knowledge of swimming pool operation, maintenance, and aquatic programming preferred.
PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and visual communication. May require weekend, night and holiday work.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from a accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation or a related field and two (2) years' experience as a supervisor in Parks and Recreation OR an Associate degree four and (4) years' experience as a supervisor in Parks and Recreation OR graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and six (6) years' experience.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Certification in community CPR and First Aid must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Professional Parks and Recreation Certification preferred. Lifeguard Training, Water Safety Instruction and/or Swimming Pool Operations Certifications preferred.
