JOB SUMMARY
The regional clinic assistant travels between assigned schools within a designated region to provide first aid and health services to students, based on training completed by the supervising school nurse(s). The clinic assistant works under the supervision of the school nurse(s) and School Health Supervisor. The clinic assistant collaborates with the supervising school nurse(s), site administrator(s), and School Health Supervisor who are responsible for communication and direction regarding the level of care provided to students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/REPONSIBILITIES
- Determine students' health status upon arrival at clinic and provide appropriate care and referral if necessary
- Make referrals to school nurse, school social worker, guidance counselor, administrator, school staff, and community agencies as appropriate.
- Assist students with health, hygiene, and other personal needs
- Follow district procedures as contained in the Clinic Assistant Procedure Manual and the Healthy Student Protocols
- Administer medications and perform select health procedures per established guidelines
- Maintain documentation of health services provided to students on a daily basis
- Maintain clinic supply inventory
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and community agencies while maintaining confidentiality
- Keep clinic organized, orderly, and clean at all times
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrate ability to perform basic mathematics and clerical skills (i.e. filing, record keeping, report preparation)
- Communicate effectively in both written and oral form
- Knowledge of word processing and data entry computer skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Job rated as Light Work; frequently exert up to 10 to 20 pounds of force; occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds
- Subject to environmental conditions as activities may occur both indoor and outdoor
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent
- First aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certifications or agreement to become certified within the designated timeframe
