POSITION DESCRIPTION

Title: Safety Field Trainer

Reports to: Field Training Manager/Director of Driver Training

Summary: Responsible for driver training and skill assessment to include on-boarding training and orientation, remedial training, accident root cause training, quarterly training, and problem resolution in a positive safety attitude and environment.

Major Duties:

Carrying out the Company’s organizational values and operating in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and Company policies are required functions. Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Conduct on-boarding training and orientation, remedial training, accident root cause training, quarterly training, and problem resolution through hands-on and classroom training.
• Perform skill assessments. Train, coach, and mentor driver by helping them to develop the skills necessary to become safe and successful PTL Drivers.
• Teach terminal office staff regarding safety regulations and matters.
• Provide training and be a subject matter expert to Operations.
• Interpret company policy and accurately communicate to staff and drivers.
• Develop and maintain good working relationships with supervisors and drivers.
• Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required.

Job Requirements/Work Area Conditions:

Education: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience
Certifications: Must hold a valid CDL and be medically certified to drive or be able to obtain a valid CDL and medical certificate if experience requirements are met.
Experience: 3-5 years

Type of Experience: Must have been active truck driver for 2 years.

Prior training experience preferred.

Special Skills:

• Must be able to demonstrate behaviors in alignment with our organizational values.
• Employees must have a broad knowledge of FMCSA rules and regulations. Must have strong communication skills. Must have the ability and skill to assess, coach, mentor, and train. Must be able to understand and able to demonstrate and explain safe vehicle operation to others. Need good problem solving and decision-making skills.

Physical:

Must have the ability to travel on a frequent or weekly basis. Mode of travel may include airplane, automobile or truck. Operate office equipment, including telephone, fax machine, personal

computer, have reasonable accuracy and speed on ten key skills and/or keyboarding; bend, twist, pull, push, and lift up to 25 pounds to accomplish duties of the position; work in excess of 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, as required to perform essential functions.

Environmental:

Individual will travel from various field terminal locations, which may be loud, dirty, dusty, and greasy within OSHA regulations. Location will have a high concentration of diesel fumes and other adversities.

WORKER ATTRIBUTES

Knowledge - An organized body of information usually of a factual or procedural nature which, if applied, makes adequate performance on the job possible. A body of information applied directly to the performance of a function.

• Clerical: Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as Microsoft products, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology.

Skills - The proficient manual, verbal or mental manipulation of data or things. Skills can be readily measured by a performance test where quantity and quality of performance are tested, usually within an established time limit. Examples of proficient manipulation of things are skill in typing or skill in operating a vehicle. Examples of proficient manipulation of data are skill in computation using decimals; skill in editing for transposed numbers, etc.

• Clerical: Must be able to type.
• Talking: Must be able to clearly relay important instructions and ensure they’re understood.
• Listening: Giving full attention to what others are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions when appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
• Critical Thinking: Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
