Volunteer Internship – 12 Weeks | 16–20 Hours/Week | Monroe, WA
Overview
As a Cooking and Culinary Event Intern at Pasado's Safe Haven, you’ll support our Culinary Programs Manager in preparing fresh, plant-based food for classes, donor events, and fundraisers. You’ll learn practical vegan cooking techniques, safe food-handling skills, and the workflow behind nonprofit event food service. This internship offers a unique experience in nonprofit event planning, including food service, and how adopting a vegan diet can help save animals and the environment.
What You’ll Learn

- How to work with a wide range of plant-based ingredients, from staples to specialty items
- Event-focused food prep, plating, timing, and safety standards
- How culinary elements support donor experiences, classes, and mission-driven programming
- Approaches for talking with guests about plant-forward eating in a warm, accessible way
- How a nonprofit culinary program operates from planning to execution
What You’ll Do
- Prep, cook, and plate plant-based dishes for classes and events
- Support smooth event flow by helping with setup, breakdown, and workspace organization
- Assist with ingredient sourcing, inventory checks, and equipment readiness
- Contribute to cooking classes by helping guide participants and enhancing the guest experience
- Collaborate with staff to keep kitchens and event spaces clean, safe, and efficient
Internship Requirements
- 12-week volunteer internship
- 16–20 hours per week
- Interest in vegan cooking
- Commitment to following a vegan diet during all internship activities
- Washington State Food Worker Card (must obtain before start date)
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Reliable transportation to our Monroe sanctuary and other Seattle-area event locations
- Must be 18 (do not have to be a current culinary student to apply)
