Employees in this position work 6 hours per day, 5 days per week, 9 months per year and shall qualify for district contributed health insurance, sick days, paid time off and membership to CalPERS for retirement benefits.

DEFINITION
Under general supervision, collaborates with special education administrators, classroom teachers and other appropriate personnel to develop and implement Behavior Intervention Plans and provide one-on-one and/or group Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to designated students.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
An incumbent of this classification provides one-on-one and/or group intensive behavioral intervention services.
The class of Behavioral Interventionist – Applied Behavior Analysis, is distinguished from the class of Instructional Aide/Special Education in that duties and responsibilities of positions in the former classification are focused upon modification of inappropriate classroom and playground behavior, while those of the latter class are directed toward assisting in and reinforcing the instructional process.

Vacancy Information: The current vacancies are at Focus Point Academy. Employees in this classification work 6 hours/day, 5 days/week, 9 months/year. This position qualifies for district contributed benefits.
Selected candidate shall start at Step 1. Upon completion of probation and satisfactory evaluation at 6 months, employee shall be advanced to Step 2. All other step advancement is granted each year after probationary period.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL LICENSE OR LANGUAGE SKILLS

Education:
Must possess a secondary (i.e., high school) school diploma, or its equivalent (GED). Advanced education, such as an Associate (AA) degree, or education beyond an AA degree is highly desirable.

Experience:
One (1) year of experience providing support services to children with serious behavioral and emotional needs is required.

SPECIAL LICENSE OR LANGUAGE SKILLS:


  • Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License and use of a private automobile may be required
  • Incumbents will be required to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR card and Crisis Prevention Intervention certification within six (6) months of employment

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities of this class include but are not limited to:


  • Assists individual students regarding chronic classroom behavior
  • Consults with classroom teacher in the development of specific goals and objectives for assigned student(s)
  • Collaborates with teacher to develop and implement behavior plans
  • Monitors and supports student elopement
  • Applies behavior analysis principles to work with assigned students
  • Provides individual and group assistance to special needs students in the classroom
  • Conducts Discrete Trial Training with students as assigned
  • Supervises students at recess time
  • Assists in supervising student on playground and in designated sites to optimize good behavior
  • Plans activities and monitors students to reduce inappropriate behavior
  • Provides positive behavior incentives to students to encourage self-discipline
  • Encourages appropriate social skills, interaction with peers, playing games, and conversation with partners or small groups
  • Meets with principal, teachers, parents and other staff as requested to provide input concerning student behavior
  • Collects and maintains data on student performance necessary to the development of goals and objectives for assigned student
  • May operate audio-visual and computer equipment
  • May perform classroom-related clerical activities
  • Performs other related duties as required

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employees in this classification work primarily indoors, in direct contact with students, the public and other District staff, exposed to strong odors, exposed to potentially contagious illnesses/disease (tuberculosis, measles, mumps, chicken pox, hepatitis, etc.), with minimum guidance from supervisor; some assignments may require constant attention to protecting physical safety in a classroom where pupils, because of the nature and severity of their disabilities, are accident prone, or because of assaultive or self-abusive tendencies could cause serious injury to themselves or others.

APPOINTMENT
Employees who receive a regular appointment to the class must serve a probationary period of one hundred and thirty (130) days of paid service. During this period, an employee must demonstrate an overall satisfactory level of performance; failure to do so shall result in the employee's termination without right of appeal.

Pay is based on actual hours worked.
