The Position PASADENA HUMANE is currently hiring a Veterinary Health Coordinator. We are looking for a college graduate who learns quickly, has strong interpersonal skills and feels passionate about our mission. The Health team cares for all the pet animals and wildlife entering our shelter. As Health Coordinator you will work with other Health Department coordinators, managers, the director and the chief veterinarian to evolve all programs that involve animal care and behavioral or medical care for pet animals. The health department provides care for cats, dogs, small mammals, rodents and a variety of reptiles, birds and small livestock. Some animals may have infectious diseases under treatment or requiring quarantine, or other medical conditions requiring nursing care. Some animals may have behavioral concerns under treatment or requiring protected contact. This is a supervisory position which requires proficiency in project management, cross-department collaboration, employee and volunteer training and program development. We are looking for people who have experience or training in supervision and enjoy tackling complex projects. In this position you will be expected to acquire or further develop your skills in husbandry (e.g. feeding, sanitation, enrichment), nursing (e.g. triage, medication administration, physical exam) and training (e.g. understanding cat/dog body language, low stress handling and restraint, positive reinforcement based techniques) Requirements and Qualifications We are looking for graduates with an associate’s or bachelor’s degree who are comfortable working directly with animals in a medical and shelter environment. You should be a master of organization, comfortable on a learning curve, able to elicit cooperation and offer tangible contributions. You should thrive in a work environment where the pace and tasks change daily and collaboration brings best results. Education and ExperienceAA, AS or two years of post secondary education required. Work experience will be considered as equivalent to education on a case by case basis.BA, BS or graduate level education preferredCPDT, CBCC, CWR, RVT or VTS preferredTwo years of experience working in veterinary medicine, zoology, animal science, ecology, agriculture, public health, rehabilitation, laboratory animal research, biology or similar field preferredCertified euthanasia training preferredWORKING CONDITIONSFast-paced environment. Employees are exposed to numerous animals (living and deceased), including those with uncertain dispositions. They are required to act in a safe and responsible manner. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
