JOB TITLE:  TEMPORARY PLACEMENT ASSOCIATE


FLSA: Non-Exempt, TEMPORARY


FT/PT: Full Time


 


WORK SCHEDULE



  • Must come to work regularly and on time. Must be available for early hours. Must be able to work hours according to the needs of the department schedule, including weekends and holidays.

  • Temporary term would be May 2025-December 2025


 


 


SUMMARY      


The Placement Associate is responsible for assisting the Foster and Alternative Placement program in finding temporary or permanent placement for Animals in the Pasadena Humane shelter population.  


 


JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:



  • Work in all aspects of the Foster and Alternative Placement Department as assigned by supervisor. 

  • Proactively address foster needs and challenges; provide high-quality customer service.

  • Work collaboratively with the Veterinary Health team to ensure health and wellbeing of animals in foster. This includes coordinating vet appointments for foster volunteers and preparing medications for foster population as prescribed by a veterinarian. 

  • Schedule vaccine appointments for foster volunteers, vaccinate animals, and provide health exams as directed by Veterinary Health team and leadership.

  • Maintain inventory and supplies for foster kits; prepare supplies for foster families and coordinate distribution of those supplies.

  • Facilitate appointments for foster volunteer and transport groups including scheduling and managing the calendar, preparing the animal and their supplies, greeting the volunteer or partner representative, providing information and paperwork, ensuring the animal is properly booked out in the shelter software, etc. 

  • Schedule and manage foster spay and neuter surgery scheduling with the foster parent and veterinary health staff. 

  • Assist transfer program with on-boarding of new transfer partners.

  • Facilitate and process adoptions for pets in foster.

  • Provide foster volunteers with information about animals including behavior, age, breed, sex, medical and about Pasadena Humane policies and programs and animal welfare. 

  • Create and maintain documentation and records for adoptions, foster, transfer, and medical care as required. 

  • Ensure safe and humane animal handling at all times, adhere to Fear Free policies. 

  • Respond to email, phone, web, or in-person inquiries regarding placement programs promptly and with excellent customer service. 

  • Answer questions and provide educational information using great customer service techniques to assist customers with pet need; guide them to PH programs, services, and collateral as appropriate. 

  • Process animals using shelter management software and hands-on engagement with the animal.

  • Perform duties and offer support to other teams, departments, and programs as assigned. 

  • Ensure a positive, educational approach to customer service with a goal of educating the public. Promote positive relations with the general public, volunteers and staff while promoting the organization's programs, policies and philosophies. Address and direct customer complaints as appropriate.


 


 REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS



  • High school diploma (or GED/proficiency certificate).  

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.  

  • Must have a valid class C driver’s license with a clean driving record. 

  • Must possess own car and vehicle insurance.

  • Well-developed interpersonal, public speaking, and communication skills. 



  • Excellent knowledge of dog, cat, rabbit, and other pet breed characteristics, temperament, training, and handling is a must. 

  • 1 year of experience working in any of the following required: animal welfare, animal rescue, veterinary medicine, zoology, animal science, laboratory animal research, animal behavior/training or animal boarding facilities. 

  • Bilingual in English and any of the following strongly preferred: Spanish, Armenian, Mandarin.



  • Excellent time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills 

  • High competency in a variety of computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite and email.

  • Strong sense of professional judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality. 

  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and manage several projects simultaneously. 

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS


Fast-paced environment. Employees are exposed to numerous animals (living and deceased), including those with uncertain dispositions. They are required to act in a safe and responsible manner.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and/or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
