Job Term: Full Time

Compensation: $65,000 to $72,500 per year (includes health/dental/vision and vacation benefits); participation in 403b retirement plan if desired

About the Pasadena Conservatory of Music:

The Pasadena Conservatory of Music (PCM) provides opportunities for students of all ages and backgrounds to learn, perform, and enjoy music. Founded in 1984, PCM is a nationally accredited community music school that offers a wide range of programs, including individual and group instrumental instruction, music appreciation courses, master classes, summer camps, workshops, and concerts. More than 1,200 students attend PCM annually and over 3,000 students in the San Gabriel Valley benefit from its outreach programs.

The campus is located in the center of the city and is situated on 1.5 acres with Caltech and Pasadena City College a few blocks away. Four buildings (29,000 sq ft) of varying vintage include studios, classrooms, offices, common areas, and performing spaces, including an intimate state-of-the-art performance venue, Barrett Hall, and new Learning Center and Amphitheater.

Job Description:

The Facilities & Maintenance Manager is responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the campus. The Manager will seek opportunities to improve physical operations, processes, and infrastructure. The position is full-time, may entail some evening and/or weekend hours, and reports to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities

Key duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversee all building and grounds operations, maintenance, and major repairs
  • Oversee and maintain Barrett Hall and its related audiovisual systems
  • Compliance with city codes, permits, inspections, ADA
  • Manage office systems, equipment and coordinate IT support
  • Supervision of support services (cleaning, grounds, IT, HVAC, fire alarm, elevator, etc.)
  • Management of building/event supplies
  • Emergency response plans including staff training for safety, security, evacuations, etc
  • Liaison with city police and fire departments
  • Handle facility complaints
  • Develop short- and long-term facilities budgets
  • Serve on the Building and Grounds Committee
  • Coordination with members of the management team
  • Assist with event logistics and set up (on an as-needed basis)
  • Perform any or all of the following maintenance duties:
  • makes minor plumbing repairs including leaky or plugged faucets, pipes and waste lines
  • performs routine light carpentry work
  • makes minor electrical repairs such as repairing fuses, replacing fixtures and installing electrical outlets where wiring already exists.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or Vocational Degree required
  • Hands on experience in one or more construction trades
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar position
  • Experience supervising subordinates
  • Knowledge of theater and audio-visual systems a plus

  • Ability to manage support staff
  • Ability to solve problems and disposition to seek improvements
  • Well organized, self-motivated, goal-oriented, and flexible
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs unassisted, and 100 lbs assisted
  • Familiarity with safety equipment
  • Perform physical labor, climb ladders, bend, squat, walk for long periods of time
